I’ve been listening to quite a bit of these guys recently and I thought they deserve their own thread, so here it is. I don’t know much about them so give some info on them if you can. I hear their latest release is quite the departure from their black metal past. Did they pull an Empyrium on us?

Furthermore, am I the only one that thinks that guy’s voice is creepy as hell? Regardless, it rules muchly.

ahhh dornenreich, one of my favorite bands.(new album in the works, read on prophecy website)

All three of their albums are great, but i think the 2nd album is the best. (a good mix of the more harsher 1st, and the more acoustic/violin third ) Their last album is not all acoustic at all, but it does have alot of the whispering kind of vocals. The vocals(blackish shrieks) on all three releases are really over the top, one of the things i like. They also seem to be able to cram into one song what lesser bands could try in a whole album, and still keep it good (imo)..each song is like a small little journey, and something is always going on in the backround.

Key songs include: " hasses freigang" and "und wie ein kind in deiner" (on first album)
"nachtlich liebend" "wundenkussen"...maybe my favorite song by them and "reime faucht der maerchensarg" (on second album)

"schwarz schaut in tiefsten lichterglanz" and "wer hat angst vor einsamkeit"(on third album....this album does have more acousticy weird whispering type songs, but it has more tracks also so they're broken up)

Edit ::: for reference, 1st album - Nicht um zu sterben
2nd album - Bitter ists dem tod zu dienen
3rd - Her von welken nachten

So no, they didn't pull an Empyrium on us for the last album but they did go on a tour in europe acoustic only i believe... maybe thats where you heard it.

One of the few black metal bands I really like. I love their poetic lyrics and Eviga's creepy vocals. (Some people think there's a girl singing... :tickled: ) My favourite album would be "Her Von Welken Nächten" (2001, Prophecy Productions). The intensity of "Trauerbrandung" blows me away everytime I listen to it. The soft whispers of the following song "Mein Publikum - Der Augenblick" are a good contrast and perfect outro...
Brilliant band. Can't wait for their next album. It'll be called "Hexenwind". The release is scheduled for the end of the year.

Their 2 last are awesome , Her Von Welken Natchen is a bit special though .

This is very weird , mainly because of all the syncopations. "Bitter Ists , Dem Tod Zu Dienen" is far more accessible and contain one of the best Dornenreich song : "Reime faucht der Märchensarg" (looked for both titles :p )

They don't. :p

Her Von Welken Nächten is brilliant. I might think differently too though if I didn't get the lyrics. Dornenreich wrote some of the most poetic but at the same time meaningful lyrics I know.

You have a point. They are definitely unique and can create a great atmosphere, I will give them that much. I just couldn't get into it for the life of me. :erk:

Any opinions on Hexenwind yet?
I have and i must say MEH! I can understand what they were trying to do (with the laid back atomosphere) but none of the songs are memorable. They seem to just plod along with non of the spontaneity the old stuff had. It has none of the great keyboard tracks of past albums either. (a small keyboard part in track 3) I really like acoustic stuff but even that was just ok here. The classical guitar part towards the end of 'flammend blick' was cool. My favorite track was the last track which had the least amount of metal elements, but worked with the nice strumming, vocals and some dynamics. I know i keep comparing it to their other albums but i ADORE those albums and to go from that to this is o_O I think i'll go put on Bitter ist's dem tod zu dienen..

I am confident that Tenhi will release a quality album (with violins!) :hotjump:

should i get something by these guys? im looking for a "somewhat different" approach to black metal than im used to.
