Dream Evil

No, not the band... the Dio album. Where do you rank this in the Dio (band) backcatalog? I have been listening to this album and I love it just as much as I did back in 1987. I don't think it's because I saw them on that particular tour. Start to finnish a solid album. I think anyway...

I think it was easily one of his best, though not quite as good as Diver/Line. There were a number of classic tracks on DE: Could Have Been a Dreamer, Night People, the title track, etc.

I really enjoyed the disc he did after this one too, Lock Up the Wolves.

My favorite of his solo albums. His most varied song-writing-wise and All the Fools Sailed Away is my favorite of his entire catalogue. The only downside is the production; never noticed it before, but on recent listens it's really compressed and quiet. If it had Holy Diver clarity it would be perfect.

yes, #3, behind the first 2. although you could make a case it's his best. I agree about the production...a little muffled if you ask me. The remaster of it is pretty damn good though!!!

That's not really production though, that's mastering. Just get it used at a pawn shop and pick up the old school master.

The last great DIO album. Not so overwhelming as "Holy diver" or "The last in line" but as good as "Sacred heart" and far better that the rest of his catalogue, quite average in my opinion but "Magica" that I like a lot.

Good, but not great, record. Nearly all of his 90s and 00s output (except for the dull Magica) top it.

With that said, it contains "All the Fools Sailed Away" which is among the best things he's ever been a part of.

I'd rank his solo output as follows:
1) Holy Diver
2) Last in Line
3) Master of the Moon
4) Sacred Heart
5) Strange Highways
6) Killing the Dragon
7) Angry Machines
8) Dream Evil
9) Lock up the Wolves
10) Magica
