Yo

Just listening to some Transatlantic at the mo, and it got me to thinking... what's the best DT side project so far? This can include solo albums, prog supergroups, whatever, but not ones where band members have just made appearances, such as Explorers Club and tribute albums.

Stuff like Transatlantic, Liquid Tension Experiment, Mullmuzzler, Platypus and the like. Probably forgetting a few too!

I thought the same thing, but I've been listening to it now and it's pretty darn good. Good background music!

Tried finding my Dio CD but couldn't. I can't even remember which CDs I sold to you guys when I had my CD sale earlier in the year (or late last year... can't even remember when it was!!).

There are some CDs I love, but can't just sit down and listen to them because I find myself skipping tracks. This is probably one of those, especially considering it has a couple of songs that go for almost half an hour.

Well, my favorite would have to be Transatlantic - Bridge Across Forever. I totally disagree about it being background music. I think it is a masterpiece, and one of my favorite albums ever. Stranger in your Soul and Duel with the Devil are 2 motherfuckin epic tracks! The first akbum was good, but BAF is mind blowingly good!

I also love LTE, espeically he 2nd one. When the Water Breaks is one of my fave instrumental songs.
Mullmuzzler is fantastic too. Not sure which one I like better. I used to love the first one alot more, but now I am unsure, as the 2nd one has some awesome songs on it. Confronting the Devil rocks!!

Planet X are pretty good. I have both their albums and saw them live last year. Virgil is an animal behind the kit, and Dereck really suits thiis kind of music. I like the Universe album, but it isnt anywhere near s good as LTE in terms of prog/instrumental.

I got the Jelly Jam a few weeks ago, which has John Myung, Ty Tabor, and Rod Morgenstien. It is ok, but nothing special.

Chroma Key is cool ambient music. Not really what I usually listen to, but KevMo is an awesome performer and composer of music.

Can't wait for Petrucci's solo album. I have heard the songs that he did for the G3 tour, and they are freakin cool.

Have to be Jordan's solo opus "Feeding The Wheel" - fucking rocks (note also features Petrucci)

So in a list:
Feed The Wheel
LTE 1 & 2
Mullmuzzler 2
Transatlantic (the two of them)
Mullmuzzler 1
Planet X
Platypus

I haven't heard Jelly Jam yet, its been sitting on my desk for a few weeks but I haven't gotten to it yet.

Ah, but Derek did Planet X AFTER he was sacked from Dream Theater, so it's not really a DT side project :) Neither is Chroma Key for that matter.

well should i get the latest one then?? whats it called??..

NO! Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulance is not a great album and would be a terrible introduction to Dream Theater.

I'd go with either Images & Words, Awake or Scenes From A Memory for starters, Southy. If my CD burner was working I'd do a compilation CD for ya but... well, it's not working :) Awake is the heaviest of the lot.

bummer bout the CD burner bit :( ahh well just have to pay a visit to JB or something..but i might jve to wait a week or 2 'cuse im scrpaing up the cash and beating people up* to get another tatt at the moment

i just wish to clarify for people that dont notice sarcasm i wouldn't REALLY beat anyone up for money..unless they a)were rich b)pissed me off
