Yeah - any true fan of prog would know that they must think exactly what other prog fans think. No longer are they opinions, they're facts.

A drastic change in song structure and even the band saying they went for a more popular songwriting style is a fucking fact of progression. Not my opinion and I thought prog meant progressive last time I heard. So why would someone choose to disregard that particular album if it shows the most change in direction overall??

I would have to say that all of Images and words are great songs, so is A change of seasons and Six degrees. Scenes from a memory is kinda cool but you tire from that one fast, I haven't listened too much on Awake or Falling so I can't say anything about them. But all the songs on A change of season rocks, but that one might be a tough one to start with.

Images & Words, Awake, and Scenes From A Memory are probably the best DT albums. I have yet to hear Train Of THought so I can't comment on that. I think Scenes From A Memory shows more of their diverse musical talent that any other of their albums though.

Scenes and ToT are their best two albums, but songs like The Spirit Carries On and Vacant are just too sugary. On the other hand, Home, Stream of Consciousnesss, and a long etc in those albums are really good.

I enjoy Liquid Tension Experiement songs more than DT song overall. I don't know why...maybe because it doesn't have any cheesy lyrics. But then again, I haven't heard alot of DT songs.
