Hey guys,

Anyone know how to get rid of the annoying pumping sound from the drums and bass? Is there a specific frequency that i need to cut on the bass drum or the bass? I know mixing is a art and not a defined thing but i cant for the life of me get rid of that damn pumping sound lol. I dont want to side chain compress. Does the kick usually cause the pumping sound or is it usually the bass? When I play the track (kick and bass only) it doesnt have the pumping sound, when I add the guitars in the mix it starts to pump. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pumping is caused by compression. Do you have a compressor on the master buss? That would explain the pumping once you add guitars.

Take the limiter off for now. Especially when you are starting out, it's best to have nothing on the master buss. Compress your drum channels individually, but not so much that anything pumps. Then try to figure out what frequencies are competing between the guitars and drums - use EQ to balance things out.
