why are hihats a problem?

are the transducers the little foam things that touch the drum head?
and if they are how do they break? do they tear or?

Nah, the wires tend to come off the triggers as they're not soldered on very securely. You can solder them back on but it doesn't always work properly.

does anybody know of a way to use the straight-in method with a hi-hat pedal?? i've never heard of any software supporting such a thing

I am an electronic engineer so it shouldn't be a problem at least soldering wise
