Drums on morningrise

i know they arent from one, but on songs like nectar, they sound especially like electric drums

If they were electric Mike would've had a hard time placing lost of the beats slightly off-beat.
I noticed that the drums on Morningrise and especially on Orchid sometimes can't hold up with the rest fo the band or vise versa.

Anders was pretty boring, but he should have done more piano work.

not necessarily, they could be triggered...and they do sound somewhat like that imo...they weren't though...it sounds like they just had overly dry production.

I like the drum style on "Morningrise". I do like Lopez better of course, but something about the rawness on the first 2 sound good to me. I think there were some unique fills also, especially in the middle of "Advent".

Don't think they sound electric either, just the production.

I'm not a big fan of the drum sound on the first two albums myself. Definite use of either triggers or at least heavy amounts of limiting/compression/EQ to take all the life out of the drum sound and make it kinda bland, which is kind of a running theme through the production of the first two albums. Sure, you can hear all the instruments nice and clearly, but that certain something is missing that makes the whole package sound 'together'. I dunno how to really explain it properly, but that's the vibe I get. Meh, YMMV of course.

The drum sound on MAYH was a step in the right direction, but they really got their sonic shit together on Still Life.

On Morningrise they used one of those clicking machines, so the drum timing was absolutely perfect, and drum machine like. I prefer the drums on Orchid though, more realistic.

I don't know for sure what they used, but I honestly think the timing was not perfect at all. Not saying it was horrible, but I hear several places where the beat was off or a missed hit on the snare that they didn't care to go back and fix.

But again, maybe that raw sound...almost like watching a band jam in their rehearsal studio is what I like so much.
