Dt Record Sales

irrelevant or not - this everyone should handle at his/her liking.
but i don't know either

Actually, I have to confess: I don't know.

Around the time when TMI was released, someone from the band said in an interview that The Gallery had sold about 25 000 copies and ESA something like 6 000. At that time they didn't yet have the numbers for TMI, but they predicted that it would sell about as much as The Gallery.

Now, however, we must note that the above information is over four years old - thus I'd believe The Gallery has sold about 50 000 copies; whereas Projector and Haven (supported by a bigger label) have probably sold far more.

So, here are my "educated guesses" in this matter - they might be wrong by lightyears, but unless someone can tell us some actual numbers, this is the best I can come up with:

Skydancer (original) - 10 000
OCaEN (original) - less than 5 000
The Gallery - 50 000
ESA - 10 000
TMI - 50 000
Skydancer + OCaEN (re-releases) - 15 000 (?)
Projector - 80 000
Haven - 80 000

That would be a total of 300 000 albums sold, which is actually quite high for this kind of an unknown band. Perhaps the numbers of The Gallery and TMI should be dropped to 40 000 each and the numbers of Projector and Haven dropped to 60 000 each. That would sum up as a total of 240 000 albums sold, which sounds a bit more reasonable than the previous number.

Other ideas?

And sorry, Misanthrope, you left me no chance to ignore this challenge. ;)

thanx for the info villain
but i was wondering if Century Media has all the sales numbers recorded anywhere, in some sort of database or anything like a billboard, I dunno, it would be perfect for the band members to enlighten u, don't ya all think? or maybe they're so modest that they don't want to talk about it, cause the numbers could be a little better than what we think :D

i think projector might have sold quite a few less than haven. Considering a lot of fans ive read werent liking Projector (not me but others :) ) plus Haven is their most recent and im thinking it may have been better known since people might have found out more about DT when they joined Century Media. I dunno, all speculation i spose =).

I though about that, but then again Projector has been out for over a year longer than Haven - thus it has had time to sell more. That's why I chose the same number for them.

And thanks for the compliments, guys - just remember not to rely on my numbers too much.

Well I'd say it's normal the Gallery is the one with more copies sold. It was the album when Dark Tranquillity became famous and their fame spreaded like fire and besides is the second album so Haven has some years less of life than The Gallery...but let's see what the new winds will bring...

i was just wondering, looking at all these impressive numbers, what sort of sales do other bands (like, more comercial ones such as korn & limp bizkit) have? is it heaps more?

probablly best if no-ones pays any attention to this, as it will just piss me off...unless it's actually what i'd like to hear:err:

In the vein of the post from "the face of smeg". Does anybody know how the sales are for In Flames? That is, how much more money have they made in their more comercial music compared to our beloved DT?
Would be really interesting to know...

Anyway.

shamefully much more than DT, I hate that...I used to love In Flames (never more than DT of course ;P) but now I'm turning to some kind of hate from some kind of unknown source....weird but sort of charming feeling :p

Is it possible to get an update on these totals?

hmmm... only through the power of google, i'm sorry. it's one of those issues where you always end up being in the wrong if you say something, no matter what. some bands like to flaunt their record sales - or are honestly mistaken about them - adding to the real figure more or less every copy sent to distribution and stores: not so dt.

me too, it's probably because of Shittrack to escape from?

ok they dont sell enough to live good from this money
Most of the guys in DT have jobs besides the band, niklas is designer, mikael is social worker(dont know what the others do, martin B. is keyboardwhore for tiamat...)

for In Flames, I`ve heard they sold of Reroute to Remain about 100.000 worldwide
thats not bad but in an interview anders said that they cant really live from the band but everyone tries.
but its right a band who tours a lot earns much money
look at tool, they release all 5 or 6 years an album but are each year in the "these bands earned most money by touring-lists"

If DT sold that many records, they would headline a lot more.

Would you agree that In Flames sold more of their most recent records than DT? I mean, whenever both bands would play together, DT always supports and doesn't headline. In Flames has done lots of headlining in the US and STYE even made it onto the US charts.

According to this, http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=24924, "Soundtrack To Your Escape has sold 45,725 copies in the U.S," and Reroute to Remain sold 68,735 by the summer of 2004. I know that's different from worldwide sales, but if DT is the less popular of the two, they probably sold less records worldwide.
