Last week I did a shitload of tests with my Marshall 1960a and I think it's interesting to share some of them.
I used the Mago DI's and I tried different position for the 2 mics I used, 1 sm57 and 1 ADK S7. The mics were both on axis with the speaker but they aimed different spots on the speaker.
The main mic is always the sm57, with the ADK 9db lower.
Anyway I think a blind test would be more interesting so:

B) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1436721/B.mp3

C) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1436721/C.mp3

D) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1436721/D.mp3

I'll post the positions when I'll get enough votes.

Results:

B: SM57 aiming the center of the speaker and ADK next to the sm57, aiming between the center and the junction (ca.)

D: sm57 between the center and the junction on the top left speaker and the ADK same position on the top right speaker (Joe Barresi style)

A: sm57 between the center and the junction and the ADK next to the sm57...practically the center is "between" the 2 mics and both are between the center and the junction

C: sm57 between the center and the junction and the ADK next to the sm57 on the external part of the speaker

It depends on the music...I like using 2 mics because I can get a richier sound and I have also 2 options just in case (1 main mic that sounds good and another one to complement the main mic if I need it)

this one sounds good! i can never get enough mids with a 57,
its or really fizzy, on center of the cone, and too far away its just loosing fizz and getting more bass, cant find any way to capture more mids

Back it away from the speaker, less fizzy, less bassy, more mids.

how far? sometimes i back it off to like 5-6 cm and its not enough.. if i take it further away i gonna start getting room sound, no?

Ok...we have a winner and it's my favourite as well.

Is it possible to use another riff other than this one? Seriously, it's used on practically every tone test posted here.
