You know disagreements arguements and all that shit. Do you do a majority or do you elect a dictator? Do you just accept that people are gonna be pissed off from time to time?
Dictatorship all the way. I always did it the way Gavin described it. In my old band, *if* someone had something to contribute, they were always welcome, but if I didn't like it, I'd tell them I didn't like it. I'd also only bring in stuff that I was 90% certain they would like, so rarely ever would they not dig it. Still didn't help the singer's ego and some years and clashes later I was sick of them. So in my current electro project, I just hired the musicians and now tell them what to play without having much influence on it at all
See, my singer is also our keyboard player and so with us, the music is imnportant, the vox are like an afterthought. Hahaha
In my band, the keyboard/vocalist and I are the founding members, write the music and such so while everyone gets a say so, we're pretty much the ones who say "that's awesome" or "that's baws."
The other 2 respect that and i believe it helps us cause when they contribute something, it's usually something top class cause they know that if it's arse we'll not use it.
So by all means, have an open forum, discuss stuff but you WILL need someone to take charge and point out the shite.
If/when you're signed, this is the producer and/or manager's job. Until then, one of you need to have the baws to tell your members when they're fucking up.
It makes for a healthier band.
