DUI thread

I wish I could find this study I read once that showed it was harder to become a cop the smarter you were. They were simply rejecting the more intelligent applicants.

And I wish I were joking about this. :erk:

If there WAS a problem with too few smart people becoming cops (once again, not something thats very easy to back up), I'd be looking at society and how the general impression seems to be that "smart people" go to university and wind up in a profession/scientific field/creative/whatever. Well, who does that leave to become cops? A much smaller pool. This is all extremely hypothetical, and I don't think cops are stupid people. Even my girlfriend's dad, an abusive drunk and a horrible cop by many accounts, is not a stupid person per say.

Fact #1: most police departments have fairly stringest mental exams; you simply cannot be an idiot and get a decent job as an officer

Fact #2: more and more modern-day cops actually go to 4-year universities to study programs like criminal justice

The amount of fucking retardation is this thread is astonishing.

I know for a fact that there are officers out there who put a lot of effort into passing these exams, masking their problems in order to get onto the force. Also, some of the problems come up after they're on the job. I know the testing is repeated regularly, but these tests just aren't cutting it. In my experience, officers have been allowed ridiculous leniency due to fabricated medical issues, etc.

But whatever, gugs, its obvious that you just really want to believe that cops are generally good people. I'm not trying to say they aren't, just that the ones out there who aren't have to change because of the very nature of the occupation. If they're enforcing the law, they shouldn't be breaking it on a whim because they're aware they can get off with a slap on the wrist.

Truth.

A lot fo people will learn a topic in university and keep cop as a backup job or as a destination after some real life experience. Case in point, friend of the family was a network admin for a large organization and now is a high ranking internet detective tracking down kiddie porn and shit.

When do we get the FREAKIN GUNS?!?!
I told you, you don't get a gun until you tell me your name!
Ehhhh I've had it up to HERE with yer... RULES!

I've never disputed that.

But you and several others in this thread seem to think that stating over & over again that because you think it's the majority of cops, then it actually is.

It simply is not.

I say again: you describe the exception, not the rule.

yeah,he was in on that big international bust. The one where they arrested 27 people or something. Live kiddy rapes via webcam and shit.

Fucked up individuals.

Apparently the people running it did "tests" to prove you weren't a cop, but the cops passed the tests and got in anyway.

If I ever said it was the majority, I made a mistake. I know I never MEANT that. Sorry if I did. What I said, and meant, is that if the problem exists, it is system-wide in that until it is corrected and not allowed, the potential for it to become FUCKING HUGE remains.

I know a couple druggies who had to stay clean for 6 months so they could pass their urine test. Day after that they got royally fucked up on shrooms..

Used to work with him at the grocery store. he's kinda dumb too.

the majority?

LOFL

more idiocy, jesus fucking christ

Look gugs I know you think your the end all authority on alot of things, but I think I know what Im talking about when its my county, cops that I know, and situations I was in. When you've seen officers buying cocaine, taking bribes, and framing suspects, theres really no reason to trust cops much anymore. I have family and friends in the police force, I work in the fucking court house with cops everyday, I have quite a fair amount of knowledge of how they work too. So when I said the MAJORITY of officers in this county were corrupt in some way or another, I was serious.

small towns/counties (is a county like a town?) tend to have cops that know everyone and tend to lead to more corruption perhaps?

Cause its fucked in my town too. Cops will harass people they know are stoners and whenever they catch them with weed or shit they'll take them away, walk back to their car and smoke the weed right there.

my apologies, I read "county" as "countRy"

'nother random thought: Corruption is the reality of the world we live in. It's not going to go away no matter how much we whine about it. So how do we deal with it as well as we can?
