dumb fuck

i don't have a problem with a band that changes their sound, but i do get upset if their new sound sucks. there's no need to support a band if they start making music you don't like. i doubt i'm ever gonna go see In Flames live again because to me it's not worth hearing 5 good songs when you have to sit through like 13 that suck.

Ha, that's my approach. This Unholy Alliance Tour that's coming up soon, I like CoB and In Flames a lot... but not their newest works. So I won't be going because I can't be arsed listening to 3 bands I don't particularly like just to hear 5 (if that) songs from each band that i'll enjoy. It's just not worth £30.

Also imo, bands can change... either through their own choice or via influence/pressure from others. In Flames = highly influenced, Kalmah = pure choice. TBW owns CC hands down... and for me, TBW is equally as enjoyable to listen to as all the other Kalmah albums. Apart from the change in vox (which I like) and a little less technicallity (eg. guitar/keyboard solos) theirs nothing particularly different about Kalmah to me. It's still better than most crap thats produced in the metal industry these days... and I'd go as far as saying it's one of my albums of the year so far. (Their's still some beasty albums to appear over the horizon yet though I reckon)

As for In Flames... I think they should get rid of whining Anders and replace him with someone who has a decent grunt :p Ofc... that's my opinion :)

wow these are some really good points/thoughts! I didn't mean to get into a discussion about band style shifts and the public reactions, I just wanted to say fuck that bitch who wrote a shit review. Carry on though, it's quite interesting.

As stated before I'm trying to NOT be such a music nazi, that being said, I FKN HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE TALK SHIT ABOUT IN FLAMES/COB. It's not like they're mainstream, their music didn't even change that much. Now i have NO problem admitting that their best work was def. whoracle/clayman, BUT THE OTHER STUFF IS GOOD TOO.

I'm wondering (Discussion not argument) how you feel In Flames was 'influenced heavily' to change their sound? It's not like they're getting played on MTV or anything like that. Amazing music can't be hidden forever, eventually they would have gotten big in America anyways.

BASICALLY: I don't think that RTR or STYE is what made them famous. It's still HEAVY music w/ screaming. HELL it's even LESS melodic then it was before which means if anything they got harder, and less Fairytalish...

This is all for the sake of discussion btw.... :)

SIDE-NOTE: I wonder what antti thinks about In Flames and or CoB??

well, seeing as the first riff of "Man of the King" sounds like they're bashing COB mabye they think that are lol-able

What's wrong with people talking shit about In Flames or COB? People don't like their new albums, they're entitled to their opinions. And I disagree about their music not changing much, compare Subterranean and STYE, they changed drastically.

Actually they do get played on MTV pretty often, or MTV2 at least.

Why not? So what if you think they're "heavier." Those are still the albums that made them more accessible and got them more popular. And i prefer the fairytale stuff to Anders whiny bullshit anyday.

Well, that's one fucker's opinion and I don't respect it! or at least don't agree with it. Who the fuck is COB? It's not the fucking standard band that you compare other bands to. Since when Kalmah was trying to get out of the shadow of COB? Kalmah stands alone all by itself, their style is different than COB (at least maybe nowdays). You can never compare Pekka's vocals with Alexi's vocals (don't want to trash his vocals but you all know lol, I remember someon said that Alexi's vocals suck donkey balls lol). Besides, everyone has its own taste, I mean I can listen to TBW and keep on repeating it for a whole god damn day without getting sleepy or bored or w/e. I like the new vocals AND the old vocals (I even said it before that I prefered the old ones but then when I listened to the new ones more, "I'm lovin' it" hehe). If he meant that all songs kickass by saying it's hard to differentiate, then I agree :p~
Antti might not have done the same job as in swamplord or they will return (kickass solos) but still, he did a great job in the album and it's Marco's first album with the band so give him a break!
To conclude, the band changed vocals, made a kickass album and they will still rock on and COB should take Kalmah as an example and try get as good as Kalmah ... and if you don't agree with me then GET OVER IT! :p~

agreed, everyone is compared to them just because they have a growler and keyboards

So your saying that their newer material is what has made them more 'accessible' to become more popular, and not time to naturally progress as a band? Would you have been happy if they released 4 Subteraneans?

Yes, I don't think they would be where they are now had they not released RTR and STYE. No, I wouldn't have liked it had they released 4 Subterraneans, and they didn't. Their early works were all different and were all good.

Like every other band, Kalmah (the ultimate band of Finland) is judged for changing their genre a little... and that reviewer is like a classic mundane listener which thinks every band has a style and must perform it until they disband or die from boredom.

Kalmah did a great job releasing this album! They are brave enough to take the challenge for an evolution in their music. It's no one's right to judge them for performing such an act...

And by the way; Bodom's shadow may only fall on Kalmah's shit. Two totally different styled bands! I hate it when people think Bodom invented Finnish music... even though I love Bodom.

Kalmah rules! They've way to go!

What's wrong with Antti's solos on TBW? They kick major ass, wtf?

nothing wrong, hell TBW's solo is sooo fuckin warm that sometimes i feel like crying!! its fucking amazing ... but I've always expected Antti to come up with something like Hades solo or even better and I'm still hoping for that thing to happen!!! I'm sure he can, but you don't always need kick-ass solos to compose a great kick-ass song (Bitter Metallic side is an example, I JUST LOVE even though the solo is like 5 or 6 seconds lol) but I would die happy with another kick-ass solo like the one on Hades. Don't you agree?

Well, first I don't see how COB and Kalmah are different styles. If they are then I can't spot the differences. In my view they play the same style but Kalmah's music is simply better. Second, TBW wasn't really an evolution, it just has slightly better songwriting than the previous albums. I would find it very strange if someone said they liked Kalmah's older albums but not TBW!!

Yes, Hades does have a truely, incredibly, orgasmic solo, as do most other Kalmah songs. I wasn't dissapointed at all with TBW's solos, The Black Waltz has one of my favorite Kalmah solos, its so well done! But you're right, I do easily prefer past songs' solos over most of TBW's solos. Goddamn, Kalmah is so fucking awesome!:kickass:

i agree with the prophet. the black waltz kicks incredibly copious amounts of ass. i am trying so very hard to understand how people think the old stuff is just worlds better. the new album is so amazing.

you are my new favorite e-friend. cmon guys just listen to Bitter Metallic Side and try to tell me with a straight face that Man With Mystery is better...

back on topic, I think it is redundant and immature of a listener to compare Bodom to Kalmah. Bodom helped push the genre into the spotlight but i'm pretty sure "The Black Waltz" and "Trashed, Lost, and Strungout" don't need a comparison to eachother. I think the review was from a "casual listener's" perspective, and that is why I made this thread, it just pisses me off. Call me drunk (which i am), call me dumb, but the new album kicks royal assery, and I am more than pleased. It's just stupid reviews like this that will keep Kalmah from a fanbase which they truly deserve....

But BMS is a better song. Its more like comparing Man With Mystery and With Terminal Intensity. I like MWM more.:heh:

Kalmah is WAY better than COB, nuff said.
