No I'm not calling for a showdown or duel...It concerns your handle.

Does it refer to the amazing series of books by Frank Herbert, (that I would recommend to everyone here), the completely awful movie based on the first book of that series, the computer game based on the movie, something desert oriented, or something I haven't even guessed yet?

Actually its a nickname given to me by some friends due to my last name, which is Fladung (pronounced Fluh-dune). Ironically enough though, I've never actually seen/read anything related to the sci-fi novels, although I've wanted to for some time. The 666 part is equally random, a carry-over for trying to register with various web services and the handle "dune" already being taken.

Ah, leave it to young adolescents to deal out names based on unusual sounds in a name.

You should check out the books...all of them. The best ones, in my opinion, are the last three, (the fourth one, God Emperor of Dune, is full of wisdom and interesting thoughts). I think there is also a guy (his son, maybe?) who is making a trilogy to prequel the original series.

A rather new game, Dune 2000, is also worth a run through the game, though Age of Empires II is still better.

The number behind your name is a strange bit of chance.

Yeah !!! The Dune books, as well as other Herbert books, are absolutely recommended. My favourites are 'Dune', 'God Emperor of Dune' and 'Chapterhouse : Dune' - esp. the last one, the atmosphere is so unique, like the end of an era, the 'Twilight of the Gods' !;) Check out his novels 'The Godmakers' and 'Santaroga Barrier'. The first is trademark Herbert style, with 'that' logic sequences so hard to decipher because of his usual omission of every second link in the logical chain :goggly: . The second one is unusual for the author, and very weird/psychedelic. The growing tension and ending is simply wonderful...

Wasn't it around '91-'92? I remember playing DuneII on my good old faithful Amiga..

*sniff* :s

[edit]

I looked it up: "Dune" was released in 1992 by Cryo Interactive / Virgin and "Dune 2" in 1993 by Westwood / Virgin.
