I've read it's doable, but haven't found anything other than antiquing of LP parts. And one person complained that it rubbed off eventually. Has anyone done it and was it successful? I'm looking to do some neon colors like on the old Universe models for bobbins and pickup rings.

I've read about people dying plastic with the same stuff they use on clothing/textile.. (it was on a forum for model planes/cars etc)
Put the stuff you want to dye into a container and add the coloring-liquid/powder and some water to cover it.. try keeping it concentrated..
Leave it in there for a couple of days or so..

Other than that, I'd say cover it with some sort of protecting coating afterwards.. polish/furnish (or whatever the english word is) made for boats (if you don't touch it) should be very resistant..
