cool... but, if they're a "folk metal" band from Chicago, wouldn't they have to be American folk, not European folk like the rest of the lineup? Are they, like, John Denver metal, or what?

@ Boob: Actually they do describe themselves as "American Folk Metal" on their MySpace page.

I briefly saw this band when they played with Metallian at the Double Door in January. Unfortunately we were walking in towards the end of their set, so I can't give a good evaluation at this point. Looks like I'll get a second chance!

Yeah, good fit, I look forward to seeing them again. Because the concept is cool, but yeah, their execution at Heathen Crusade wasn't the greatest. I hope they still do that Pippin song!

From my HC review:
Let’s see if I can remember the eight people onstage: singer (girl), violinist (girl), drummer (girl!), bass (12-year old boy with a wedding ring, seated), 2 acoustic guitars, electric guitar, and keyboards. It sounds like it was basically their first performance, and it kinda showed, but I really like the concept, so hopefully they can keep this orchestra together and develop it more. Ooh, and they played a “Tolkien” song! (Pippin’s depressing-as-fuck lament from “Return of the King”)

something about American folk metal is just funny. The United States doesnt have any mythalogical ties to anything other than native American history.
Do they sing about George Washington chopping down the sacred Cherry Tree? Something about any band from the US playing this genre.

I have heard rumblings about thier Heathen Crusade show but no one would say what happened. odd.

Still interested in seeing them though. Good booking Rob.

they 4, maybe 5 and they looked bored and scared

I remember Earthen's name because they were supposed to be on a bill a few years ago around here. An earlier Chicago Powerfest? Chicago Metal Anthem? Just some show as an opener? I don't remember, but I think it was supposed to be at JJ Kelleys. I checked out samples and was looking forward to them, but they pulled out of the show because they weren't ready to play live yet. So I'm not surprised they were still a bit shaky after that. Hopefully by now they're on all cylinders, I'm looking forward to seeing them.

They are a great band. Very nice people. Their show at the Heathen Crusade fest was their first show. They play alot though in MN after that.
