What do you guys think about this?

http://blog.wired.com/business/2008/01/ebay-sellers-ri.html

As somebody who sells/buys a lot of gear on eBay every year, this has me pretty fed up. Basically if your auction actually works out, they charge you even more money on the back end of the sale. So they're rewarding the people who can't sell shit, and stabbing the successful sellers in the back. :Smug:

I may start exploring my other options. What do you guys think?

I haven't found an alternative to ebay yet.
a)you have to go where the customers are, nothing is as popular, or widely known at least as ebay
b)you don't want to lose that hard earned positive feedback if you've accumulated over the years
c)i'll think of another reason after some coffee

I used to use ebay but stopped because I got charged whether I sold the item or not, plus when I did sell I got charged to accept PayPal. Thats kind of a pain. And when buying I was finding shipping prices to be outrageously inflated, like $1.99 for the item, and $99.00 for shipping, I'm asuming that its an attempt to make back the seller fees and meet their minimum price, but its deceiving to the customer, and is a violation of terms of use. I've been on the other end of things too, where I actually lost money by successfully selling and shipping something.

so anyway, you could try selling here, but I'd only accept paypal. You both get a receipt, and you can be 99% sure the money will go through. I think even charging 5% extra would be acceptable to most people, as there is no sales tax. (buying locally here in Ontario there is 14% tax)

Fuck this noise right here:

It isn't just the fee structure that has sellers out of sorts: eBay also changed its feedback system so that sellers cannot give a negative or neutral rating to buyers.

"Sellers will no longer have a way to protect themselves against bad buyers, deadbeat bidders, scam artists, buyers who make unreasonable demands, buyers who don't read the ad then demand a refund, the list goes on and on," one merchant wrote in a forum.

I buy from ebay but try to sell on the forums, still use paypal but that gives both parties some security. 3% is worth the piece of mind

I seriously spend like 50% of my last salary buying snizzle form ebay, new cymbals, some mics and even some cool clothes that you have to buy way overpriced here in Holland...
Nice calculation..Sabian AAX o-zone crash here: 250 euro's (atleast), through eBay with shipping (155 euro's)...
That's a big difference..
I hate the new policy, it's bullcrap, they probally never heard of the term "never change a winning team", well they just sol their starplayers, and now they get assraped those ceo's, I hope..

Well they did say they were gonna enact other methods for sellers to get justice - I'll hold off on judgement until I hear what those are.

I hope it's sufficient because as a seller it's alot simpler to just go look at the feedback rating to see if the buyer has a history of being a shit head.

Seriously everyone gets some negative from time to time as a seller I don't care if you have 1 or 2 negative feedbacks as long as you have done at least 12 transactions. Shit happens deals go wrong etc...

But there are some who make a habit of being stupid hence the feedback system being good. The only thing as a seller that drives me NUTS is when a seller won't leave feedback until you (the buyer) does. If they just got rid of that it would be great.

Craigslist is where it's at. No shipping fees, no eBay fees, and no Paypal fees. Of course the usefulness of it depends on where you live.

+1 to Craiglist...I used to check it every day so I didn't miss anything, but I've kind of slacked off since then. I got both of my MD421s, as well as my Central Station, from Craigslist. Probably some more things too that I just can't think of at the moment

that feedback thing sucks, I used to be a power seller and the wack-jobs that want to blackmail you with feedback are endless, cant wait to see what it is like when you have NO protection against these people

P.S Guitargodgt thats why you don't give feedback first, sorry, it was the only way from keeping the crazies at bay

Well this was the scenario that I found myself in with a seller:

I bought it now, payed imediatly and the seller didn't ship the item till 2 week later. Needless to say I was less than fond of the idea so I
wanted to leave negative feedback telling others that he was a slow at shipping and to look elsewhere. But I couldn't because he was one of those "once you leave feedback I will" assholes.

Basically I rule as a buyer he sucked ass as a seller.

Thought I'd give this a bump, as I'm listing my headphones for sale on ebay right now and in the payments accepted section, there's a box you can check that says "Block bids from buyers who might make transactions more difficult or expensive." So that threw me off given how ridiculously ambiguous it is, but I figured, "sure, why not?" and checked it. Then, when I was looking at the preview of my listing, I realized that that box had made my auction paypal only! What a twisted, insidious, roundabout fucking way of getting people to use their service so they can make more money! Oh, and they force you to accept paypal too now. Scumbags, I'm just glad I noticed...

use GEAR GOBLIN :)

I know, I know - I guess I just didn't wanna bother registering for and learning the format of a new auction service right now, especially cuz I haven't seen too much activity on Gear Goblin auctions (such as your 6505+ head Kazrog). Sorry, just being honest man - what kinda advertisting are you doing for it? Maybe take out some banner ads on websites?

LOL.

What's the worst that could happen posting it on Gear Goblin? Worst case scenario: no one buys. Best case scenario: someone buys and you don't get raped on the back-end
