Edguy are currently in the mixing stages of their next record entitled Rocket Ride, its due early in 2006. In the meantime theyve dropped an E.P. on us, in similar fashion as they did with King of Fools prior to Hellfire Club. Lets review it shall we? Superheroes features six tracks in all, two versions of Superheroes an electric version and a scaled down version with Tobias and a piano, while the song isnt the strongest of tracks, I like the stripped down version better, its typical Sammet lyrics. Up next is Spooks in the Attic, which I feel is the strongest track, memorable guitar work, killer harmonies, AOR radio friendly. I just could not get into the next number Blessing in Disguise, its good a ballad, but theres a missing something, it just falls flat, up next is Judas at the Opera, which again features the insanely clever lyrics from Sammet, but special guest Michael Kiske handles all lead vocals. Clocking in at an epic 8 minutes, this number is another strong song. This song has all the ingredients that make an Edguy track fun and makes you want to hear it over and over again. This one is so fantastic Tobias should record lead vocals for this and include it on the next album! Then comes The Spirit, which is a Magnum cover, I havent heard the original, its filler. The closing track the second version of Superheroes, which is the piano version. Its kind of hard to review something like this, because it shouldnt be held to the same standard as a full length album. If I have to rate this? I would have to give it a 3, it doesnt hit the spot. At that price? You get what you paid for. I would recommend Superheroes to the people that are already familiar with Edguy, the rest of you wait until Rocket Ride is released, it should be huge.
