have you read "Orientalism", mia? it's a weird book because it strikes me the same way reading arch-conservative books by really good writers does; like, it makes intereresting, thought-provoking points as you're cruising along, but there are points where you suddenly are like "oh my god, this is absolutely fucked/insane/evil!"

i have only read excerpts, so i can't pass judgment on it, really. regardless, i think it's ACADEMICALLY worth reading.
