embarrassing interview with In Flames drummer

When I saw them Anders asked how many people owned the Jester Race and like four people raised their hands. It was unbelievable! I understand why they don't play those songs very often. Of course, I was happy to hear Graveland. But I understand the bands point of view.

sounds about right...
mad name by the way.
see the problem is half the users that come on these forums and bad mouth bands on their new stuff dont even bother to rock out at their gigs (sit down in chairs) possibly dont even go to the shows and if those cunts arent appreciating the old shit when they eventually go to a show.......
what are they sposed to do if these new fans are loving the new music....

its a fucking taste matter, you can't discuss that

but for me

the old IF > the new IF

Well Inflames sounded similar to Dark Tranquility and vice versa back in the day but now they sound like Korn with a few keyboards and a few more melodies. Dont get me wrong I love Inflames and hate Korn. But some of their songs now sound very Kornish. That doesnt sound to innovative to me. Really the new inflames just sounds modern and mixing what alot of radio bands are doing right now.

I like both OLD and NEW In Flames. And I don't think that newer In Flames albums are "Nu" metal. They still sound pretty death metal to me. If you don't support In Flames, then fuck off. Go take a time machine back to the 90s and stop your fucking whining.

-Vince

I like old and new Inflames too but they dont sound Death metal. Theyve never been " DEATH METAL" . Hence the tag melodic death metal. Can anybody honestly say they were ever "DEATH METAL" they started out sounding more melodic blackmetal and folkish then got all groovey and melodic.

Ander's growl was awesome. I asked about a year ago to Anders why he doesn't growl anymore. He answered back by saying he can't do it anymore.

also that night they had a nice setlist with some good older songs(clayman and back): pinball map, worlds within the margin, insipid 2000, behind space, gyroscope, scorn, only for the weak and episode 666.

I was REALLY surprised at this setlist.

Ok, so for my first Post, here on UM is in the In Flames Forum, I would like to say that they have gone "mainstream" or "NU", and are appealing to a different crowd!! I have all their albums from Lunar Strain to Come Clarity, Clayman being my favorite, and I would have to say that their older stuff is by far better. But in the same sense, their new stuff isn't that bad either. I don't prefer it but would rather listen to Come Clarity than say, My Chemical Romance, that shit sucks!!!11 Also Clayman hasn't got the recognition in this forum that it deserves, I started listening to In Flames from Clayman, then got all of their stuff and still think that its the best album they have done. Just the right growlin and awesome guitar solo's. I have seen In Flames several times in concert and they went from playing with bands like Moonspell and Devil Driver to Killswitch Engage and shit like that, Moonspell isn't that great but Devil Driver kicks soo much bootay its unbeleivable!! So as you can see from who they have played with, they have altered their sound to appeal to the male 16 year old douchebag who wears girls pants and thinks its cool.

Lunar Strain and Subterrenean are my favorites by far, can't say I've heard much of their newer stuff past Clayman, because the last time I tried to, I got a similar effect to the first time I heard Ain't my Bitch by Metallica.

http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/IN FLAMES Drummer: 'We Don't Feel Any Pressure Whatsoever, Not Even From Ourselves' - Nov. 24, 2006 Metal Covenant recently conducted an interview with IN FLAMES drummer Daniel Svensson. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

Metal Covenant: You've been praised by the media countless of times, and each album you release sells even more copies than the previous one. How do you keep motivating yourself and do you never get tired of all the success?

Daniel: You can never have enough of success, but if things were starting to stagnate and we would be playing in smaller venues than before, I would probably have trouble motivating myself. I mean, we all have families and children and it's tough to be away from them eight and a half months each year. There are moments when the touring is not that funny, you know?

Anyway, we release an album, work hard promoting it with tours and that's it. We don't have the kind of pressure on us anymore that new successful bands have, when they suddenly have to make a second album which sells just as much as the first one. We've done eight albums now and all of them have done well, so we don't feel any pressure whatsoever, not even from ourselves. It usually turns out fine in the end.

Metal Covenant: So you haven't made up a plan how much longer you will continue and how many more albums you will make?

Daniel: No, we keep on taking one album and one tour at a time. We're getting old and we all have families and kids. If my wife would put her foot down and say that she can't take this anymore, I would understand and definitely consider quitting the band. At the moment I don't see an end to it though, so we'll probably be around for many more years to come.

Metal Covenant: You have many loud fans that prefer the old IN FLAMES albums…

Daniel: Oh, really…? (laughs)

Metal Covenant: Yeah, and these fans would most likely want you to only play old songs on your concerts. Do you listen anything to these fans or do you only listen to yourself and do what you believe works best?

Daniel: We obviously do what we believe in ourselves, but we have actually given many songs from "The Jester Race" a chance. And almost every time there is no reaction from the audience, they just stand there looking confused. Tonight we play one song from "The Jester Race", "Graveland", but the truth is that the new songs work better with the people that come to our shows. I mean, why should we listen to two guys on some Internet forum when the majority clearly likes the new material better? Since the really old songs were never written to be performed live, the effect is not the same. They are simply not much of live songs."

Yeah, obviously because they have KoRn fans going to their shows now :erk:
I went to a show from their last tour and everyone was SCREAMING for "old in flames" songs.

The newer In Flames is by far better than the old. The vocals on the older stuff just sounds like any other "no talent" band out there. I mean, listening to all the newer metal out there is just depressing. It's like they all try and sound the same...and they do. It's hard telling bands apart anymore because the vocals all sound so similar. A dime a dozen anymore. In Flames has now matured, and they've come up with a style that you can recognize as "In Flames" just by hearing the vocals. You know it's true you just don't want to admit it. I like my metal bands to have a "unique sound" that is true to each band. Something you can tell them apart by. Sadly, most newer metal acts don't try vocally to excel. How many times do you hear a great band..obviously full of great musicians..where the vocals are actually detracting from the overall value? I just can't tolerate great music with awesome harmonies and overall structure when the singer ruins it with their gah gah gah gah gah gah can't understand what the fuck they're saying incoherant non talented lyrical style. It ruins the musicians talents. How many hours..years of practice does it take to become a great guitar player and drummer? A long time. How long does it take to bark like an incoherant dog and call it singing? Probably 5-10 min. Newer In Flames by far.

haha, you seriously can't be serious? how old are you, 15?

Definitely, once you listen to older In Flames, its hard to stomach the newer stuff (Come Clarity and some STYE). So, get schooled then make comments!!

What makes me sad is that Daniel came from Sacrilege to play drums for In Flames when (imo) the two albums he made with Sacrilege are way better than anything IF have produced post-Colony. Proper melodic death! So to see Dan saying all this bollocks about "modern" metal being uber and that fans of the old stuff are basically cunts just makes me believe In Flames are all about the money and nothing to do with the music. Boo to them all.

I believe that what they are playing now-a-days isn't proper melodic death. Comparing their old stuff to the new absolutely blows my mind because i can't believe how good they were before. I don't know how Anders' clean vocals of current albums can be considered melodeath.
