Emperor Cover

Hey Brett you got the guitars pretty close, and the drums are almost there... I'd add some more ambience to bring the drums together and try make them sound more like a real kit. The synths are just way too overpowering. Cut them up a bit to make them slot into the mix, move em back, verb em up. The mix overall needs more grit. Distort the hell out of everything you can... hell even run a distortion plug-in on those guitars again if you want.

Wow dude, those synths sound absolutely fantastic, though I agree they get way too loud and guitars too soft in that main intro riff, and although Moonlapse's suggestions are probably spot on to make the whole mix sound more like the original, I absolutely can't endorse making something sound intentionally shitty, so I say leave it as is as far as clarity goes :) I agree with him on the drum ambience though, the drums have a great crack but do sound just a tad programmed. What samples did you use?

Oh yeah, and I LOVE that arpeggiated acoustic - how'd you get it to sound like that? Delay/chorus? Or is it a 12-string?

As a song by itself, Sounds great. This song has huge sentimental value for me so it could never sound better than the original version to me. But still it sounds great but really nothing like the original.

Guys thanks a lot for your comments and suggestions!
I'm definitely not trying to replicate the sound from "In the Nightside Eclipse" ;) Yes the orchestra is EWQLSO. The thing is that the guitars on this song are not particularly interesting (no offense to their creators) and I'm going for a more epic and atmospheric mood yet trying to bring in some raw power in that (hahaha... think maybe Emperor played by a bastard band between Dimmu Borgir, Strapping Young Lad and... well, obviously Kalisia). And to me orchestral parts always sound better when loud, way more powerful. This is totally arguable, but I'm just to saying that the loud orchestra is an intentional choice. I hope it's not unbearably loud though :)
I hope you're kidding about the arpeggiated acoustic because I think it sounds horrible! Can't get my poor acoustic guitar to sound any better, it's almost like a banjo, lol :D
Anyway here's another version: http://tinoo.free.fr/emp2.mp3

This too for me brought back SOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!! I can just hear the vocals in my head... absolutely killer cover... are you going to do the whole and add some kickass vox too???

Electronic/Triggered-style drums on it remind me of some Anaal Nathrakh releases for some reason, dunno why *shrugs* probably cuz it's black metal???

Aaargh, got it on loop now... gonna stick the original on in a sec :)

Thanks guys :)

Yeah will be included as a bonus CD with "Cybion" along with Dream Theater, Cynic and Loudblast covers (all including guest performances). The choir is... errr, damn, I use those all the time but they're very old... "Symphony of Voices".

Actually all the covers are linked so I had to find a sound that fits all those styles and that's not like "piece of cake" if you see what I mean.
For drums the cymbals are DFH, the rest is a mixture of many samples (must be like 4 or 5 samples on the snare) gathered here and there, just to make it unique and not the usual DFH or Slate sound you hear on every mix here. :)

One of my fav songs nice job but u must quit the palm muting!
I think palm muting is a no no for this song or any early symphonic Blackmetal song.

actually i just plain don't like palm muting in Blackmetal it doesn't belong.

complete the song if u need some vocals on there ill give it a shot.
