emperor thread

I'm sure GoD never really liked Emperor much at all. He had rant after rant on the production of INTE for a while, and WOTT just ain't that good, so shame on him if he does like it.

I like some of the stuff on Prometheus, such as "Empty," etc. but to be honest, I lost touch with Emperor after Anthems.

I don't like WotT or ITNE much, I've given little thought to them for a year or so now. The weak production, theatrical melodies and general monotony put me off early Emperor at the time I tried to find something worthwhile in it. Maybe I'll give them another go soon, I've been getting into the more chaotic side of BM recently and I can imagine this applying to Emperor as well.

Anthems... I loathe, the structure and atmosphere and style and everything about it just repulse me. I loved certain parts at one time but never got into it properly. This applies to Prometheus too, maybe to a lesser degree, except without the "loved certain parts at one time" bit.

I honestly think Anthems... is unfairly maligned. It does have some stirring and vibrant moments, despirte the cheesy and "theatrical" ones as you put it.

ITNE is not minimalistic BM by any stretch. There are enough riffs, plus the keyboards add variance. I really don't know what anyone finds wrong with the production. If it's too raw, listen to Anthems, if not raw enough, listen to WotT. I've heard people say the drums are mixed poorly, but that seems pretty minor.

I understand what you mean about Anthems. Acclamation of Bonds is a crappy song with fruity keyboards and a For Whom the Bell Tolls ripoff, but there's no way you shouldn't like the first few songs on there. I put this album in the "not really black metal" group.

I never got IX E, and I don't feel like I'm missing out on much. Prometheus has some outstanding moments. It's not wanky in the sense of having tons of solos, but I understand the complaints. It's a rather cold and emotionless album. The songs aren't as gripping as say, Majesty of the Nightsky, or Alsvartr/Ye Entrancemperium.

IXE has some really incredible rythm guitar riffage... great stuff. An Elegy to Icaros is just amazing. Sworn and Decrystallizing Reason are also sweet. Everything else is good, but not great.

Yeah, I just realized that someone called ITNE minimalistic. It's, like, the original symphonic BM album, no?

I don't see how anyone can call 'In The Nightside Eclipse' cheesy. If that's cheesy, what isn't? It's beautiful music, that's what the point is.

People stopped posting about the Prometheus story aaaages ago, that's why I closed it. I was hardly singularly responsible for it being sidetracked, either.

Seems like you are getting off the topic, which is Emperor. They are fucking awsome, hats of to Ishan.
