Hm. Interesting. I've been thinking about checking out some black metal. What do you <a href="http://www.ntsearch.com/search.php?q=people&v=56">people</a> who are more knowledgeable on this stuff recommend for a mostly power metal guy?

I would recommend a norwegian band called "Ulver"....their first album "Bergtatt", is a mastepiece...its melodic, melancholy and has a great "dark, cold, romantic norwegian forest" sound, but its still really beautiful and calm.. ,really everything that makes good music hehe ..
they do sing in norwegian, but I dont think you`ll have to understand every word to like this album,,,and it should not be a problem to find some translations on the internett...

other good bands are Bornkagar, Emperor and Satyricon +++

but trust me,,,"Bergtatt" is fucking great

I think you should go for some Emperor, Immortal or Satyricon if you want the "tr00" blackmetal. I highly recomend IX equilibrium(Emperor), Battles in the North(Immortal) and The Shadowthrone or Nemesis Divina (Satyricon). But stay clear of Volcano (Satyricon), not only were I dissapointet, but also lost most of my 'flair' for Satyricon. Even though some of the old tracks still find their way into my player, Mother North or Hvite Krists död would be good examples of this.

Thyrfing could also be quite a good start...

But definately Borknagar if you want something which would be cabable of sending any other message than "Kill Christ, Hail Satan... Wow Ishahn you brought your pet goat. Cool!"

Vintersorg is great, but i would be careful if its blackmetal you want. As it was said, they're not technically black metal, but it is easy to notice the influence.

I'm afraid im just repeating, so i'll better quit.
