EMPYRIUM & NEGURA BUNGET REVIEWS

I really liked the Empyrium review. Definately agree with what you have say. I still don't know which of their last two I prefer.

Do you plan on reviewing their other albums? It's always nice to read reviews of "Songs..." but I haven't seen too many. What a great band.

The Negura review was OK. I don't agree that some passages aren't fluid enough or are too complex when they should be simpler. Maybe I read it wrong, though. Overall the review was pretty positive . . . and it should have been.

I'm proud to say I was one of the first people in America to review and hype Negura Bunget 'n' crugu bradului'. I really think the album will be one of the best metal albums of 2003 for a lot of people.

the vast and complex song structures bring to mind an ambitious nature worthy of OPETHian proportions.
Hah! Negura Bunget make Opeth sound about as progressive and complex as Motörhead!

Other than that, a good review.

I do love the album though and it probably will make my list.

Did you smoke that little leaf that comes in the package?

Just kidding bro. :)

What rating (x/10) would the rest of you give to N' Crugu Bradului?

Well, I simply felt when I heard it that some of the changes didn't sound natural enough. They just seemed a little "forced" at times rather than flowing effortlessly (like the changes our Opethian buddies create). Anyway, that's just me, and then only after a few listens, so that perception could certainly change over time. Thanks for the input!

Huh? First, I was only comparing their "ambitous" natures in terms of the long and complex song structures and not the actual music here. But anyway, you're saying here that Opeth isn't complex???? Sayz what???? LOL

Thanks though dude, all feedback is good. :)

Yeah, I know. I was too.

I'm saying... Compared to NB Opeth are easy fuxxing listening. That doesn't mean Opeth're not "complex" compared to some other bands.

OK. So far Empyrium 'Weiland' is a little "drowsy" for me. I need to be listening to it right now at work. It is very overcast and raining. I wasn't able to listen to it much over the weekend, so it hasn't sunk in one bit.

More later . . .

*note* These thoughts are for JayKeeley. Please post your thoughts on Khanate. First impressions for these bands probably don't mean anything.

If Weiland would have clicked with you immediately then I would have found that odd. Give it time, and of course your location counts for some. I couldn't listen to Weiland at work, or in the car etc. Wait until the evening, turn down the lights...

...the second chapter (forest) is astoundingly haunting. It was the piece that struck me first. And then when you listen to the album again in it's entirety, all three chapters meld together very well. The third chapter (water) is quite welcoming after 'forest'.

P.S. sorry for not including a complete tracklisting. Here is one for you. Track #7 starts 'Forest':

Kapitel I: "Heidestimmung"
1. Kein Hirtenfeuer Mehr Glimmt
2. Heimwärts
3. Nebel
4. Fortgang
5. A Cappella
6. Nachhall

Kapitel II: "Waldpoesie"
7. -

Kapitel III: "Wassergeister"
8. Die Schwäne Im Schilf
9. Am Wasserfall
10. Fossegrim
11. Der Nir
12. Das Blau-Kristallne Kämmerlein

Playing time: 50.55
