Entombed Sound - Pedal ?!

Hey guys.
Sorry, I know this is an old thread and I am new here, but I managed to find a HM2 after lots of searching.
Currently using a Cort Viper X6 and a Roland Cube amp and I am disapointed as I am not getting that sound!
Every setting I try keeps sounding like its lacking power!
Getting a sound almost as if the battery has gone flat in the pedal!

Anyone tried this pedal on a Cube?

I am actually considering getting rid of it now and sticking to my trusty Metal Zone.

Thanks!

I've had the same issue.

Took mine apart (had to lube the fucking screws with oil!) to see if it was alright and the pcb looked pristine.

All settings on max, it sounds like buzzy shite. Through my Roland cube and through any gain channel on my JVM 410.

Backing off dist and especially hi just a hair helps but that isn't how it's supposed to be.

I had sort of the same problem - it was 'wrong' sounding. I took it to my friend. He cleaned up the contacts (he told me that he had used some spray). Upon returning, it was death metal! \m/
He did his job very good, obviously.

So, you could try doing the same - spraying the circuit board with cleaner.

Unless its been sitting in some extreme temperatures the caps on these are well over-rated and should still be fine. Of the 5 I've gone through I have yet to find one with puffed tops or leaking electrolytic. Clean the contacts, link the ground pins on the jacks (it gives a nice level boost) and if you really want a bit more definition change the opamps to the NJM2043. Run through a JCM like head with just a touch of gain and its magic.

Ok, so I stripped it and cleaned everything. Put it back and still the same...
Must be age and maybe a faulty component somewhere.
The search continues!

I bathed mine in IPA spray and went at it with a Q-tip too. I think I see where one of the caps leaked (them green ones). There's a horrible hi mid buzz when the treble control goes past 80% of it's range, and below that, well, it's not THAT sound. I got a dookie from the bay. Plus the fuckface took a MONTH to ship it out.

I have exactly the same, it goes like instantly to a nasty as fuck sound, and i know this pedal is supposed to sound like a beehive, but fuck not as bad as mine D:

Actually I got so furious I had to go back and try again. I switched out for a new battery and observed a few things:

1) The gain staging has to be gotten near perfect for it to sound right, I was playing my Ironbird with an EMG 81 in the bridge and it would get tamed but not thin if I pulled it back a bit.(edit: the pickup that is)

2) The marshall carnked to max shit is nonsense. Clean Orange on my JVM and Gain at 12 o' clock and it's already ass. However with the crunch orange (aka the 800 channel) gain on 1 (or 5:30 for you clock maniacs), the channel eq fairly level and the presence/resonance either turned completely off or set to max, this is it! I think at least...I've already proven I'm a moron (HM-2, why you no sound like Left Hand Path).

Also my combo is open back and has one of those heritage speakers alongside a vintage 30 :vomit:

So yeah I guess I got it hwere I want it to be, sorta. Now to get that Behringer FZ-2 clone to nail EWiz through my amp. I find quite a bit of similarity in tonality and feel between the two actually.

I realy should try both with passives once I've rewired my other guitar.

I have clean and soaked the board intensively already. I honestly think it is just old and something unseen by the eye has gone pop.
The sound Im getting is right, but it lacks power and distortion! Really has the sound of a flat battery.
And I have tried 2 batteries and a power supply, no change at all.
If I put everything on full and use it on my distortion channel on the cube, the sound is almost there but way too much noise and feedback.

you only need a very tiny bit of gain on the amp, like, really tiny. And then mine sounds right. Anything above and it is a typical overgained mess with a honky buzzy high mid frequency showing up at every note you play. That's at least my pedal, and it's an MIJ.
