Anyhow, your examples above are why I would NEVER EVER want to meet Lemmy or the Maiden boys. I seriously would be crushed if I met them and they were pricks to me. Everybody has bad days, and you never know when you might catch someone on one of them. Though that one bad experience would stick with you forever.
Let me calm your nerves on this.
OzzFest. Motorhead headlining 2nd stage. Night before the concert, West Palm Beach.
My buddy was a cop down there and we were crashing at his place and going to the show the next morning. That night he told us to hang at a certain bar because it was on his beat. So the night goes on, he shows up and drags me outside. He hands me an autograph of the entire band. Seems he pulled over a car with a broken tail light and a bus in front of the car pulled over as well. Motorhead's road manager was driving the car. He got to meet the entire band, assuming to get out of the ticket. But he said the guys in the band were GREAT and even ragged on the manager for getting pulled over.
It gets better. The next day my friend (since 8th grad) pulls me aside and says just follow my lead and we separate from the group and head to will call. Lemmy and Co. set him up with backstage passes as well. Holy shit.
Later in the day I'm testing out my pass, Wayne & Garth style, for System of A Down's set. I was backstage to the side just watching (not on the stage). Their security comes in during the 1st song and kicks everyone out being a complete ass hat. He looks at me and asks "who the hell are you with?" I reply "Motorhead", ass hat "OK you stay, everyone else get the fuck out". SOAD woman, I don't know which, she had a baby, was very nice and I BSd with her and had free drinks and deli.
Before Motorhead we were standing backstage as the band walked in 1 by 1 and busted on my friend for not being in uniform. Lemme was last and hung with us for a while... holy shit - Lemmy's talking to me, and making fun of my friend... he's like "gonna come up and watch the show" we're like yes, we just wanted to test the passes and get a chance to meet you... he's like no., come up on stage and watch the show.
So, for the 1st time I ever got to see Motorhead, I met them, and stood not 6 feet form Mickey Dee during the entire set.
Afterwards we were invited on the bus for beers... surreal? Yes. Mickey Dee fetching us beers??!?!?!
while other band members from the bill came on to get signatures?!?!
Don't be afraid to meet Motorhead, they're probably the most grounded guys I've ever met. The only other musicians who I've met that come close or were on equal footing were Doro and Fiona.
