Well guys thanks for the MANY replys eheh this one seems to be a no brainer. I'll just take some days to decide the color order it and then I'll be back with pics :)

Ps: Was the 1 vote for gibson a pitty one ? ^^

Go with the ESP. I really love Gibsons (have a SG Special from the 90's). A good buddy has a Goldtop also from the 90's, which is one of the greatest guitar I've ever played.

Decided to go to the musicstore and get a few Les Pauls between my fingers.
Les Paul Customshop Goldtop = Total crap
Les Paul Standard = Total Crap too

Tried the LTD EC 1000 which was not as sexy as a Goldtop, but was way better built. Solid as a rock.

Cheers, Markus

hey just a simple single cut question: How easy is it to play past the 17th fret either on the 1st string and 6th string. I got a cheap Lp copy and I find it quite hard to reach them while standing.

go for the Gibson, better resonation from the neck to the body
better overall temperament across the neck, play both guitars
You’ll hear what im talking about.

+ I personally hate the thin scale/jumbo fret necks on the Esps.

The bridge pickup will most likely be a 500T, very thick sounding pickup
shitloads of output, if you aren’t happy with it change it over.
I would never pick 1 guitar over another guitar because of the pickups it had installed.

Esp finish is alot better than the Gibson, My flying v is 1 year old and now looks about 20!

Btw I also own a Viper and ESP ltd 1000 deluxe and recorded the Eclipse sounds alot thinner, I don't know why but that’s what ive found.

Last point, when I play my Gibson I actually feel like im playing a real guitar!
When I play my Esp I don’t get the same feeling. Im not sure anyone can relate to what im getting at here lol

By far the WORST thing you can do dude is buy a guitar without playing it 1st, just DON’T do it!

I am on the minority side. I recently bought a EC-1000 silverburst a few months ago. I hate how the setup on them the bridge is like 1/2" or so closer to the fretboard than on a LP. Doesn't feel right. So I ordered my new silverburst LP studio instead and I am much happier with it. It's actually lighter than the EC is. Only problem was I ordered it from M friend and the pup selector knob was loose as hell and halfway spun around, but it was an easy fix to just place and tighten it. I now own 2 Gibson LP studios (the other being a gothic) and LOVE them. The EC is going up for sale. I will say it is well made, I don't think any better than the LP though. Just doesn't feel as comfortable to play.

someone should show this thread to the boffins at gibson... 27 - 3... i'd call that pretty comprehensive. its a shame because i still like the idea of one day owning a nice les paul, its just that every single gibson ive ever played barre a few more vintage items, has felt totally and utterly underwhelming

The Les Paul Studio faded worn brown|cherry is actually quite nice. It's light, plays well and the build quality is solid. Also it's very affordable! It's a little over 600 bucks over here. I'm considering getting one.

Every guitar is different, but tho it may feels weird the first couple of days, you get used to it pretty quick

LTD Deluxe are cool guitars, but you have to play the real deal to compare.

I certainly can't.
My EC-II is just plain amazing, and it has character and tone. Most Gibsons Studio and some Trad. I've played more felt like soulless pieces of wood than a lot of other guitars.
Their super-expensive-end guitars are awesome, as well as their vintage stuff too.

One thing not being discussed here much is... are you talking new? a NEW Gibson? Fuck no. 80's or bust.

If its not an 80's Gibson this isnt a discussion, and even then, as people have stated... it should be played.

Get the ESP, dont look back.

I've owned over a dozen Les Pauls over the years and thanks to working in retail music stores for almost a decade I've played hundreds of LP's. When you get your hands on a good Gibson Les Paul, it's as if god made a special gift just for you....but you have to go through 75 of them to find the diamond in the rough. I'm a big fan of mid 70's-early 80's LP's with maple necks. Everything else I'm not crazy about. If you're tuning down and don't mind the narrower, thinner neck profile of the Eclipse and its considerably thinner body...go with the ESP. As far as finish goes, I hated the satin finish of my old Eclipse II VTB. I'd go with gloss. Just my 2 cents.
