Eurovision & Lordi

Nathalie, you have a point.
But I think that a serious metal band wouldn't have taken part in Eurovision.
I think that it's clear that Lordi do what they do for fun.

yes butl generally people who doesn"t know metal music just see what is in front of their eyes not further !
it's so easy to judge without having the knowledge of what is happen in the metal world

Sure, it's quite funny for a metalhead to see a ridiculous show like that but it's a really bad advertising for the bands which create a true music

But Lordi aren't even 'satanic' they dress up in costumes that take 3 hours to get into, if you listen to them they are havey but are more bluesy than anything. We should be proud as metal fans that some like Lordi have a) got the guts to do this sort of thing and b) are going on there to show what really musicanship is about and are puting metal into the limelight.

But I do agree with Ollo-san that the down side to what I have just said would be the classic arguments, stereotypes of and against rock/metal will rise again and overshadow them. How funny would it be though if they won it!
Turisas for Finland next year! Il leave the UK to put in our usual rubbish. It is quite funny us, the French, the Itallians and Germans are the ones who put the money into it yet we are the ones who don't take it very seriosly whilst everyone else does! LOL well i think its funny.
Bet we will see the same scoring systems in place as usual i.e. the eastern block counties all voting, the scandnavians all voting, the middle east all voting and the UK and Ireland voting for each other. But please give the UK some decent marks tonight, it's quite a silly, cheesy song and it's not our fault we were dragged into Iraqi it was Bush calling his lap-dog Blair to heel!

Thank you Deadly. I don't know about what you were saying about Lordi and the finale and stuff because Im not scandanvian, im English and English through and through (although us, the scandanvians and germans are related by blood), thank you are agreeing with me though

I liked Lordi because of their costumes the music wasn't that good in my opinion...if a group dared to dress like demons for the eurovision they desrve first place...it's been quite a while since the euroviosion stood for the music
now it's all about the gimmic and the show(like stripping on stage).

As for Natalie's opinion about making metal look rediculous, I tend to disagree.
People who listen to metal know that it's not this way...and those who judge a whole genre by one performence of Finnish dudes in demon costumes are just idiots and are better off not listening to metal, if they're gonna hate it anyway

and Eddie Butler got 4 points but it was expected...he was in the begining and every country that plays in the beginning always gets a low score.

like I said Lordi deserve first place just for the original performence and actually got it...yay demons!

A really fair result.

Metal won easily!

I didn't like Eddie Butler's song, but I have to say that he is very likeable and polite person, as I saw him in a TV show here in Greece.

each year a "schlager", an attention whore like israel with its tansvestite "dana international" (lady-boy) several years ago, wins.
This show is so SOLD OUT every year.
plain old politics.

Yay, holy yay!

I liked the song though, paradoxile, it isn't brilliant nor their best, since here it was ALL about winning the contests, and making everyone like them, they surely have made better songs, but those songs are a lot more closed and way more personal, which makes it harder to love for a common man.

I did not watch the Eurovisio, because I think it's bollocks. But on what you are saying, about pple being scared, you might have a point there.

Just last night I went to see an Epica show and Mark (the guitarist/singer) was all happy, because Lordi won. I told him that I was not happy about it, because of the image they portray of metalmusic. We had an interesting discussion about it.

I still feel them winning this competition is not a good thing for the way outsiders see the metal scene. However, I am very much interested in your opinion, trying to convince me to see it otherwise.

Morticia, you are right, I have mixed feelings too. I don't really like when metal goes "pop", I really more want my metal to be mine and only mine. But I've always seen my self as a bit egoistic, so that may explaine why. But still, you are right, but who really really really cares about other persons feelings, who we do not know? I don't, I know that. And I enjoy Lordis outfit, it's cool, and fits them, since all they do IS to talk about monsters.
