Evanescence

I dig the guitar tone, the drums and the general mix, but this singer is so damn annoying. This band had some sweet riffage with Ben Moody on Fallen, but in my opinion The Open Door is unlistenable. If this song is the single for the next album I can only expect it to be even worse.

i´m really disappointed, too. evanescence is not the same without ben moody. we are the fallen sounds more like evanescence than evanescence now.
though amy lee (or however her last name is now) is still an exceptional awesome singer.
i think her life went too well to write good songs anymore. ;-)

The lyrics are total garbage and the amount of repetition is fucking repulsive. I mean cmon, the chorus comes 6 times?

Do what you what you want, if you have a dream for better
Do what you what you want till you don’t want it anymore
(remember who you really are)
Do what you what you want, your world’s closing in on you now
(it isn’t over)
Stand and face the unknown
(got to remember who you really are)
Every heart in my hands like a pale reflection

Hello, hello remember me?
I’m everything you can’t control
Somewhere beyond the pain there must be a way to believe we can break through

Do what you what you want, you don’t have to lay your life down
(it isn’t over)
Do what you what you want till you find what you’re looking for
(got to remember who you really are)
But every hour slipping by screams that I have failed you

Hello, hello remember me?
I’m everything you can’t control
Somewhere beyond the pain there must be a way to believe
Hello, hello remember me?
I’m everything you can’t control
Somewhere beyond the pain there must be a way to believe

There’s still time
Close your eyes
Only love will guide you home
Tear down the walls and free your soul
Till we crash we’re forever spiraling down, down, down, down

Hello, hello, it’s only me
Infecting everything you love
Somewhere beyond the pain there must be a way to believe
Hello, hello remember me?
I’m everything you can’t control
Somewhere beyond the pain there must be a way to learn forgiveness
Hello, hello remember me?
I’m everything you can’t control
Somewhere beyond the pain there must be a way to believe we can break through

Do what you what you want (or should I say "dowachuachua"?)

No worries Steve. I like it. But I'm sure you probably figured that. ;) Though, it's sounding less like Evanescence and more like Within Temptation. Maybe that's why I like it. :)

I have always liked Evanescence and We are the Fallen. I don't know why and it's totally something I keep on the DL haha.
This song is definitely different sounding. I kinda like it. I can't believe they got away with waiting this long to release some shit though. I wonder if this shit will get slept on....

It's a pop metal band, what did you expect, Shakespeare?

But yeah, long time since last release may well make this one underwhelming in the sales. Decent song tho.

I love Fallen, awesome album and I think Amy Lee is great on it. Every other album is pathetic though. I think lots of bands suffer from this, make one fantastic album, get famous from it, make shit for the rest of their life.

Oddly enough I like the mix on Fallen WAY more than this mix. Fuzzy guitars and all.

Hey not familiar with cutting samples but do you think the first kick and snare here would be something that I could cut up for samples. I really like the drums. Sorry for the real noob question but clueless on how to do this and if that little background noise in the beginning would destroy sampling these drums

Really catchy song, digging the mix too.

The vocals shine on this mix, which is the main goal on this band and genre.

As a commercial/pop song it has all the elements needed IMO

My wife's the big Evanescence fan in the family, not really ever done that much for me - I'll get my female fronted/semi-gothic metal from the likes of Floor Jansen and her work with the now departed After Forever, Sharon den Adel and her work with Within Temptation ("The Unforgiving" has been a real grower on me, it's taken quite a few spins, but I really like it more with each listen), or even Floor's brother Mark's band Epica who's most recent release, 1999's "Design Your Universe" immediately caught my attention in a way none of their previous releases did. Simone Simons is quite epic (pardon the pun) on it.

Special mention to one of my favorite releases of this sort - 2005's "Embrace the Storm" by Stream of Passion. Marcela Bovio has a beautiful voice and Arjen Lucassen wrote some great music for her to sing over, props to Lori Linstruth for some great girl guitar power as well.
