I thought Russ Russel did a great job with the Borgir live album, the guitars were so much louder and the whole thing sounded so much more metal than the album versions. Maybe my ears are made of cloth, but that was the impression it made on me.
Someone who was closely involved on the recording of both the PEM and DCA albums told me that the guitar/drum mix wasn't quite how he would have done it, but Shagrath was adamant that the songs, not the riffs would carry it. Awesome drums though on those two albums though courtesy of Nick Barker; Borgir seem to have a talent for losing it.
Can't comment on the new track as it has been blocked by you tube. Bear in mind that, for better or worse ,the final mix may have been influenced by certain members of the band as well as Andy's judgement.
