Slayer are the kings of the overrated
Personally, I agree with the dude. I think they're a pretty one dimensional, boring band who've become popular in the mainstream due to the whole 'folk/viking metal' thing.
Still, they're not a bad band, and you've gotta give them respect for taking a band like Evile out. Should be a good tour, for both bands.
If you've seen them live I don't think you can call them boring at all. At Unholy Alliance they were so much better than Slayer, entertainement and music wise, I personally think Slayer are how you described Amon, one dimensional and boring, all their music sounds similar and it gets on my tits haha.
I'm not going to argue with you about it, but I don't care how good they are live. I listen to music on record primarily, and if a band doesn't satisfy me on record then their live show doesn't really concern me. And honestly, I think Slayer are one dimensional too.. but they're Slayer.
That is a bit of an odd way to look at a band, some bands I haven't enjoyed at all on record, but are sensational live. Would you not rather find a band you would enjoy seeing live yet may not prefer their recorded material?
Do you enjoy them on the scale that they are 'legends' in the metal industry? I just don't find their appeal, I think if they had a different singer I would definately enjoy them a lot more, but meh, everyone enjoy's Tom's vocals so I'm stuck haha.
Each to their own.
Unfortunately, I don't get to go to many gigs, and never have done. So for me, it's not so odd. I'm not ruling out ever enjoying a band live who I don't necessarily enjoy on record. I'm just saying I'm less likely to experience a band I find boring on record, live.
And no, I don't enjoy Slayer because they're considered 'legends' in the metal industry. That would make me a sheep. When I listen to Reign in Blood or South of Heaven I enjoy them because I think they're great albums.. but as I implied, I'm not a big Slayer fan hehe.
