external hard drive?

I need a new external hard drive because the old one died (and 14gb of pictures from the last 10 years... damn it.)

I want to be able to load samples from it (like ssd or S2.0) in real time. what kind of external hard drive would I need? USB2.0 or firewire?

never tried it with my old USB 2.0 drive but I always thought it would be too slow.

any suggestions?

Firewire 800 and 7200rpm and you are fine!!!

Usb is sending data packages and firewire a data stream.

If you have the option I would go for eSATA

I don't have a eSATA connection on my computer. sucks. I could go for firewire but man those are expensive! I'm thinking of getting a usual external drive for backup and a new hd for my computer.

Kurz auf deutsch:

Das ist auch kein problem. Aber du solltest immer 2 festplatten benutzen.
Eine mit dem betriebssystem und dem Sequenzer und die andere zum Aufnehmen und für die virtuellen instrumente.

Und 7200 umdrehungen sind einfach ein muss, so bist du sicher, dass du keine aus-setzer hast beim aufnehmen
