The only "epic" rec threads so far focus exclusively on black metal, clean vox, and doom/death, respectively, so I figured I'd make one where more or less anything goes. So, if it sounds like it could be the background music for something incredibly big going down, recommend it. Choirs and anything that resembles Russian opera is always a plus, although not required : P

In general it would be cool if people could steer away from black metal; I know much of the symphonic shit could be considered applicable, but there's already a thread for that (right below this one).

Doomy stuff is often good- for example, I can think of a few Virgin Black and Swallow the Sun tracks that fit the descriptor- but I'd prefer to avoid stuff that's been done to death here: http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/band-recommendations-forum/311552-epic-doom-death.html

Fire away.

Solstice - New Dark Age
Scald - Will of the Gods is Great Power
Forsaken - Iconoclast
Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle-Earth
Doomshine - Thy Kingdoom Come
Doomsword - Resound the Horn
Manowar - Hail to England
Manowar - Sign of the Hammer
Virgin Steele - The House Of Atreus: Act I

Doomsword is pretty epic imo

also the bonus disk on Iced Earth's the glorious Burden called ghettysburg (1863) where Iced Earth preforms with a whole symphonic orchestra
