Fake Beta52 Mic

So I sent my Beta52 in for inspection and it turns out the bastards I bought it off kept the outer shell of the mic and replaced the actual capsule inside with a cheap (useless) copy.

My kick always sounded shit but I thought it was just the bass drum itself, its a Pearl Export. Then I began to notice it was distorting on harder hits, and had a really low output.

Now I'm pissed off, I bought it 2nd hand off eBay about a year and a half ago (and have only now picked up on it -_-).

And before ANYONE (particular from the US) says 'you get what you pay for', you're not dealing with $400+ for a kick mic. After I buy a 2nd microphone, including $50 shipping from the US for each of them, I still will be better off than I would have been buying new.


Plus the cheapo microphones I bought a while back which are meant to go up to 145dB only go up to about 80dB. They can't even handle being drum overheads.

Dude its a pretty big problem with shure gear in australia. ive herd many cases particulary with 57's too.

My rule of Thumb for Shure gear is Always new.

The difference between a fake shure mic and a real one is the color of the word shure on the mic itself
one is from mexico one is from the US
A light grey indicates US and dark gray indicates mexico (sumthin like that) you may not notice the difference unless you have both in front of you.
A buddy of mine works at shure amd when he started thats the first thing they teach em then he showed us

They sell them all over the place you could even get one from guitar center on accident----same box and everything
