Faking bass?

Yup, I usually play the bass lines with a guitar, pitch shift it down by an octave and run the DI'd signal to Ampeg SVX. Never had much luck with any of them virtual bassists or synths.

Also, you dont have to pitch shift it, SVX has a stomp optional octave pedal, just fiddle with that gives you a "pitch shifted" effect without having to commit, lol...

might as well just pick up a bass - even if it's some junker short scale $50 thing. it's a nice break from guitar, and you'll wind up with more of an appreciation for bass guitar and you won't be so apt to bury in the mix or have it masked by the "normal" guitars as just a barely audible rumble in the background like so many metal heads like to do. would you do "fake" 6 strings?

having said that - I have asked the same question in the past, so I'm not some holier than thou type.

I use quantum leap hardcore bass and am pretty happy with the results but a new bass might be cheaper :-\
