Fates Warning Expanded...

I read an interview with John Arch right after Twist of Fate came out and he stated that he would consider doing a full-length album if the sales numbers on ToF looked promising. From what I've seen on various message boards, most metalheads are familiar with the ToF and most think it is a masterpiece.

I'd sure like to see the sales numbers for ToF or be able to contact John directly and ask him what his plans are.

One good thing about this re-release of Awaken, it shows that Metal Blade is paying attention to the old Fates catalogue and those sales should contribute further to any future John Arch solo efforts (which would also likely be on Metal Blade).

You are really, really hoping that John will record a full album, right? In fact I agree with every word you wrote.

Much of what you said here has been on my thoughts as well. Including starting a John Arch website or forum here on UM just to let him know that his fans really want that full album from him.

Uh, yeah. I'm REALLY, REALLY hoping John will record a full album!

And I think giving him a web presence is a fantastic idea! I've been thinking of doing it myself for some time, but I hesitated because of the financial and time responsibilities. But if some of you guys are willing to help out, I'd say let's go for it! Maybe start a new thread on this Hawk?

I checked and johnarch.com was available so I went ahead and secured the domain name. That way we can build a little fan appreciation site for him and if he ever wants to create an official website we can let him have his domain for free (rather than some shyster holding it hostage for profit). The site could include pictures we find on the net, a discography, a bio, a where the hell is John Arch now? page, etc. Also we'd provide a link to the forum here on UM if Hawk can talk the powers that be into making one.

I'm a website designer by trade, so making the site is no problem. Just gotta arrange some hosting. Anyone got an "in" there? Where we could get some cheap hosting?

I'd buy anything old from Fates to take my mind off their latest album "FWX" :yuk: ... Now when's that next John Arch album coming ???

Hmmmm... I just got that one in the mail though I have't listened to it yet. I hope I like it more than you did. It's not like APSoG is it ? I like all the FW stuff (both Ray and John era) except that one.

It took me MANY listens to get into "FWX" I though it was shit at first ... but man I love that record now! there is just a certain something about it .. its very Deep .. if you let it take you its great ... as for John Arch ... well me and TSO have coverd where we will both be when that album is released Fighting to the fron tof a non-exsistant line to the A Section of the record store! :)

I'm glad you like FWX. I hope I will as well. I think FW is one of the most underrated bands out there. They were prog metal when prog metal wasn't cool. They influenced so many bands in the genre, but Dream Theater usually gets more credit.

Wow! I am impressed! What a great move on your part. I do suggest a name change, however. From "fan appreciation site" to:

The John Arch Appreciation Society

I really believe John would freak out on any fan thing going on, on his behalve. Giving it the above name would make it appear to be a more mature thing. It would come over as a group of informed adults who come together to appreciate the art of John Arch.

As for a John Arch forum on UM I know that for a certain amount of money, I believe its under 50 bucks, you can start a unofficial forum on UM as long as the people who run it are serious. I check with Deron!

Hmmm this is probably going to be the bottle neck as far as I am concerned. I know nothing or almost nothing, about that. However I know someone who does; Deron! :p

Thanks so much for the effort on your part T.S.O. And I am grateful that you took the action that was needed. You RULE!

Let me know what you think and you can always PM me or send me email on my Gmail adres!

The John Arch Appreciation Society

I like that!

Actually hosting isn't a big deal, I can arrange all that if need be. The issue is getting the funding together for it. I know places where we can host for $10/mo. Between hosting and the domain name, we are looking at about $150/yr to keep the site going. Then we need to buy a forum here on UM. We'll need a way to gather up some donations. I just threw in the first $35 on the domain name!

Time will be the other issue. We will need a volunteer to be the main contact person for the site. I can't play this part because I go live in the mountains of Montana every summer and have very limited access to a computer. We could use a back up webmaster as well, in case the site needs to be updated while I am living with the elk and deer.

Then we'll need some folks to try to dig up old magazine photos of John (and keep track of where they got them so we can give proper credit). I found about five photos from him in a quick google search, so we've got a head start.

Heya guys,

Sounding like a great idea! I'll private message you with some rates. For starters, get your domain names from here from now on: www.ev1servers.net or www.godaddy.com. MUCH cheaper. ($6.97 a yer / $8.95 / year). Look for my message!

Don't you have to sign up with their services to get that cheap price? If not, I'm gonna be ticked because I used my network solutions account to register it for $35!

Nope you don't :) It's fully independent of all that. They have those kinda of rates hopingyou DO spill over and buy other stuff but it isn't required.

SIXX

Nice of your friend to tell you this on this specific date 6! I would say the first day of April is an excellent choice for an announcement like this! o_O

I am very skeptical of this DVD news coming on April 1st. Where the hell would they get video/audio quality good enough (for a DVD) from their concerts of that era?

If the news were true, though, it would be a perfect time to launch a John Arch Appreciation site/forum on the internet. ;)

Shit I LOVE FWX. This is the best thing they have released since "Inside Out" as far as I am concerned. I think the Arch vs. Alder feud is silly. FW put out great stuff with both lineups. I wasn't crazy about "Disconnected" nor APSOG, but this one is really good. I'm glad I finally picked it up.
