One of the things i love most about Opeth (besides everything) is their lyrics so i was wondering what everyones fave lines are???

mine would have to be
1) open your soul, redeem i am immortal
2) the whole "runaway" ending of demon
3) all of To bid you Farewell

Quite possibly the coolest opening lines for an album ever...

I especially like the ending 'When' passage from MAYH. Devious movements... off Bleak are some of the best thought out lyrics for mine...I'm sure there's other stuff I'll remember later.

There are soooo many! These 3 come to mind right off:
1) In my vision, you are the embodyment of pure freedom. But through my eyes, you are made of stone.
2) Silent dance with death, everything is lost.
3) And the last thing I did see is still here, beckoning right behind me.

Oh this is horrible, i don't know where the first one there is from, (in my vision..)

On a related note, "We entered winter once again..."

Apart from Damnation, which has consistently brilliant lyrics, my favourite lines are:

"Silent dance with death.
Everything is lost."

"You sleep in the light
Yet the night and the silent water
Still so dark"

To bid you farewell's lyrics are also great.

In general, as Mikael's English has improved, so have the lyrics, I'm just picking out some of the best older ones.

Opeth have however had some fairly clumbsy lyrics: "I don't know how or why, I'll never know WHEN."

I think "Summer is miles and miles away" is one of the best lyrics ever. It just really makes me think of planet Earth spinning through space and getting closer to the Sun - covering the miles. The seasons aren't really about time passing, they're about the planet spinning through space. I have no idea if that's what Mikael meant when he wrote it but every time I hear that line it makes me think of how small and insignificant we really are.
Fucking genius that Mikael!!
