Favorite bassline?

I love these:

The one with the piano jazz solo in Awakenings.
The one that starts at 4:16 in Egypt.
The one from 6:44 until 7:40 in 'A Lesson Before Dying'.

As you would notice, the above three are almost the same kinda thing.

But if I had to pick one, I'd say the one that starts at 4:10 in Domination. It's pretty awesome!

Nice topic!

* The dissonant section in Domination, as well as (of course) the intro.
* The main groove in Communion and the Oracle.
* The bassline about halfway through Rediscovery Pt. II.
* Serpent's Kiss verse.
* Walls of Babylon, just after 3:00.
* Paradise Lost (right when the bass first enters).
* The Accolade (the crazy polyrhythmic section near the end).
* Divine Wings of Tragedy (the whole song).
* The Odyssey (in Scylla and Charybdis)
* Through the Looking Glass (right before the solos near the end of the song).

Plus MANY more that I won't name right now!

I'd have to say that that one's my favorite over all.

Some other ones that are really just licks that I really like are

the one in Fallen just after 1:00

the one in In The Dragon's Den at 2:34

the one in Seven at 4:27

the line in communion and the oracle with the slides

I've been listening to PL a lot lately, so I'll mention some great bass parts from it (in addition to what I mentioned above).

* What Lepond plays in Serpent's Kiss when Romeo plays the harmonics (just before the final chorus).
* The fill in Eve of Seduction right before the first verse begins.
* At about 2:06 in Walls of Babylon when the bass plays an ascending line under Romeo's sliding octave chords.
* The bass solo in Seven, obviously. Looking back, I was kind of bummed that The Odyssey never had a bass solo anywhere on it (save for Frontiers, of course).
* In Revelation, the lines played in the clean section near the end of the song.

There's a little bass run at about 1:37 in Accolade II that kind of stands out. Also Awakenings had many cool bass lines! Especially the one in the beginning and the jazzy part

Yep, that's a cool run in Accolade II... [Useless trivia: it sounds tapped due to its fluidity, but it's not]. Also, Awakenings is a bass beast. It's a shame they've never played the intro live; the bass solo is amazing.

The Odyssey album in general had some great bass playing (particularly the epic songs), but unfortunately the bass was quite buried in the mix. I wish The Odyssey had PL's bass tone!

Yeah, thats true...often I was thinking "What happened to Lepond?". He was more prominent in V. Although that mix didn't quite do justice to his bass sound.

I remember hearing an interview with Lepond where he said his bass sound was better on the live album than on V or Odyssey. He said the next album (PL) would have awesome bass sound. Guess he was right.
