There are some great pictures in this booklet, rather creepy. My favorite is definitely the last picture, the one that goes with 'Inside the City of Glass'. That picture really gets to me, especially when listening to the song. I love the 'city' feeling that Katatonia has these days. Something about it really is haunting. It's like this city is huge - you can see that these buildings are very, very tall - but everything is wrong with it. It seems like everyone's gone, but shades still linger there. Then there's the guy with the hat found in the VE artwork and TD artwork. I hope they keep him in the next album's artwork, he seems to represent something. It feels like he's travelled over the course of the last three albums from one point (the railroad) to the city of glass. It's so eerie and sad...

Anyway, my second favorite VE picture is either the one of the streetlamp emitting darkness, or the man in the hat gazing into the city. If you look closely at the bottom right corner of this picture, you can see what appears to be a (human...) figure.

I really appreciate the artwork on this album (and damn near all of Travis Smith's work!), but in particular I think I would choose the City of Glass or Angel Dumpster pics. The only one I'm not sure about is the "crucificed" goth thing.

I like that pic with the hurt angel in the container, or something...
But actually I think VE has the least interesting pictures in its booklet.

as for me i think i like the Angel Dumpster most, the 'Sleeper' actually. there's something unpredictable and broken-hearted about it, an angel with broken wings, the fallen one, not only in an allegorical sense as we can see... mentally broken as well, with his head sunk, almost out of life. and there's no use telling how good Travis Smith has once more re-created the nuances on this picture.
'The City of Glass" is a great art piece though, the whole exhales some static coldness..
hmm, speaking of that "crucficed" goth thing, could anyone spell out the writings on the right side below?

Yeah.

By the way guys, do you know how this works? I mean, does Travis meet up with katatonia whereupon they explain what they wanna express, and he draws it? Or how does it work?

as far as i know they (the guys form Katatonia and Travis) haven't met so far actually. the primary ideas have been mailed Travis, he came up with some own re-creations later, it has been discussed, made a decision.. it's a team work indeed..
and i have read somewhere Travis use to listen to the band's current album while creating the artwork for ir, a really inspired inside-out, heh

I prefer the cover actually!

That little girl walking down the forsaken road with a beach pail filled with a peice of black wing from the angel and a rotting bone....

The Angel definitely.
I often use it as desktop for my pc; can't remember if they had some t-shirts with the angel during their last tour, but Friday I'm gonna see them again, so I want to check.
Of course, even the cover and its meaning is one of my fave image, but the Angel is absolutely the best.

i like thisone with the angel very much too..not only because of the unique graphical execution..the idea of the illness and the debility, the renunciation of the world and oneself it's really amaising..the angel with broken wings crushed down and it's unknown if the reason is the sky or the earth-reality...the countenance of the angel is pure expression for the feeling that there is nothing left, and even the pain has no meaning...
