I got bored the other day and was listening to Viva Emptiness… Somehow, my artistic side sprung a chubby while listening to this album, and now I have this freaking movie running in sync with the music in my head!!!

It’s got questions that will never be answered, and I hope I’ve captured the spirit of Katatonia in this little rambling… tell me what you guys think!

I need to vent it, so I present to you, the script to the short film/full length album music video:

Viva Emptiness

Starring:
The Mysterious Bum
The Forsaken Girl
Angels
And other various characters!

Music by Katatonia
[Jonas P. Renske]
[Anders “Blakkheim” Nystrom]
[Fred Norrman]
[Matthias Norrman]
[Daniel Liljkevist] (I probably spelled that wrong… sorry dan!)

Script by Jinn

Based on and inspired by the album Viva Emptiness and the related artwork by Travis Smith.

When you see brackets [] it either means I’m inserting a synchronizing spot where the music and the script should be running in tandem with one another, or I’m commenting on something. Most of the time, it’ll be lyrics, so keep dem lyrics handy so yeh can follow along!!

[story so far…]
It is a time of redemption. Ancient prophecies have come alive as God’s time has finally dawned. In the near future, mankind has seen it’s Creator, and foolishly tried to harness Him. Disgusted, God has forsaken Humankind, leaving the Heaven above and the angels within it. The Angels, now stripped of their immortality and servitude, now possess free will as humans do, and have rightfully blamed mankind for God’s departure. They don cloaks of blood and fire as a symbol of their hatred. For they have made themselves visible to us now, and have given clear signs of their intentions, giving public demonstrations of their powers and ordering complete and total surrender. These Angels are called Ghosts of the Sun, named after the cloaks they wear. However, a small faction of Angels have sided with the Humans. Their passive tactics of preventing the inevitable have given them the name Sleepers by the Humans. They keep confrontations with the Ghosts peaceful and even they know that they cannot stall forever…

Chapter 1: Ghost of the Sun

The time has come. The last peace negotiation has failed horribly, as the Ghosts slaughter the panel of Sleepers sent to them.
The opening music shows a single firey red comet streak from the skies to a populated metropolitan city. The figure lands, and as the smoke clears [on cue with the atmospheric bit], the first Ghost of the Sun strides forward to the stricken mass of people. [guitars start up, Vocals] A flash of fire strikes down the nearest two people. A single scream erupts throught the crowd, arising the screams of the others. Everyone flees as the Ghost strikes more Humans down. A lone figure is seen standing stock still, letting the crowd run by him. The Mysterious Bum stands his ground and stares down the Angel [I trusted you….] a sneer crosses the angel’s face [I TRUSTED YOU!!!] he lashes out at the bum and floors him, obviously wanting to toy with this one. The bum is then picked up and thrown into the side of a building, and as the Angel rushes in for the kill, a grey blur tackles him. Unearthly shrieks and murderous cries fill the air as the two fight… the bum’s eyes mist over, [Truth is I have seen it come…] the fighting barely heard in the background as a brilliant city looms in front of the bum. He stares at it for a moment, the brilliant shining city, seemingly made of glass… all the people seem to be floating inside it… he tries to move forwards to enter the city, but something pulls him back… [I trusted you…] he looks and sees a man standing there. He shakes his head and smiles at the Bum. Firmly, he pulls the bum behind him while at the same time pushing himself towards the City of Glass, and flies towards it as though he had wings… The bum snaps back into reality and falls over onto his side [I TRUSTED YOU!!!] just as the Ghost of the Sun crashes into the wall, not six inches above the bum. The Ghost falls in front of the bum and leaps back at the Sleeper, leaving a huge impression in the side of the building, and the bum, showered in debris. The Sleeper and the Ghost tear viciously at each other [ DON’T GIVE A SHIIIIIIIT!!] when the Ghost breaks both of the Sleeper’s wings and throws him thousands of feet into the sky, [The City of Glass…] and races after him, all with the bum watching…[The City of Glass] [Outro] The bum then brushes himself off and runs down the street…

Chapter 2: Sleeper
Two days later, the entire world is talking about the encounter, about the man that survived the Ghost of the Sun’s attack, and the Guardian Angel that saved him The bum has found the location of the Sleeper that saved him and has rushed to the makeshift hospital… [Intro] The bum is running down the school hallway to the gym, which has become a temporary hospital due to the Ghost of the Sun’s latest attack after he dealt with the Sleeper. [Oh my! Your fever’s high!] the bum bursts through the double doors and heads straight for the wounded Angel, who is in horrible condition. It’s limbs have been ripped off of it and it’s breathing is extremely weak. The bum surveys the Angel without a sound and reads the medical data, hoping to decipher it’s message. [now I’m breathing..] The Angel lets out a sharp cough as it fights for breath as it coughs up blood into it’s oxygen mask. It is immediately tended to by a number of doctors to get it to calm down into a stable condition… The bum just stands there without emotion crossing his face. [someone… inside your room] the Angel shrieks in agony as it arches it’s shattered back, the weakened bones snapping as he does this, jagged edges breaking the skin, silencing his screams as his eyes go bloodshot almost instantly, his voice muted from the pain. [someone, inside your room] the Angel collapses on the bed once more, paralyzed by the pain of his back shattering. [Sleeper…what did you see?] The bum’s eyes widen at the amazing work of torture that the Ghost of the Sun has inflicted upon this creature, making it’s die in the most agonizing way possible. Even the Bum knows that the doctors are playing a role in the Ghost’s torture by keeping the Angel alive. [Parents died…] He forces his eyes from the Sleeper to an abandoned child on another bed. A small pail is beside her bed. She is clad in a simple white dress and not badly hurt. [now I’m breathing…] A small groan escapes the Angel escorted by a trail of blood from it’s mouth as it’s eyes start to mist over in death…[someone… inside your room] yet it fights to stay alive by pure will of revenge, battling the swirling fog of death. [Sleeper’s song…] The bum goes over to the Sleeper’s bedside and places a light hand on the Angel’s heart, silently vowing revenge. [if you die now…] The Angel’s eyes painfully focus on the Bum as he groans again [Sleeper’s song….] The bum gazes into the Angel’s eyes, which now hold the image of the City of Glass that the bum saw before.. instantly he is gazing up at the spiraling mass of sparkling brilliance, yet could not advance towards the City. [you die now] The City fades as the Angel breathes his last… Sounds of the dead heart monitor and the yelling of doctors invade the Bum’s mind, pulling him into reality again.

Chapter 3: Criminals

The Mysterious Bum walks the night streets, the moon deciding not to light his path. He curses himself inwardly for his actions that caused the Ghost of the Sun to attack, for God to leave… [So gather your strength] His mind flashes back to a previous time, his wife’s smile upon his face gave him an unimaginable sense of bliss… but it was gone now, thanks to him and his meddlings. Because of him, his family had been murdered. He is there again, watching as his dear wife bleeds the black blood of death in front of him, who did nothing. His family was killed, and his life’s work ruined…[my dreams of violence] and he stared at the killer’s eyes as he left the house… [The way my eyes cannot move…] The bum curses bitterly at his loss so many years ago as he walks onward in the darkness. [so gather your strength] Blood red comets brush the sky – the Ghosts, searching for him… raining down fireballs and bolts of energy, scorching open plains… the fires now lighting his path…

Chapter 4: A Premonition

The bum makes his way to an abandoned house that he calls his home. He finds some old newspaper and makes a small fire, which burns slowly, and giving off little heat. He reflects upon his past, how he dedicated himself to his studies of deciphering the Apocalypse and Judgement Day. His aims of achieving absolute Nirvana by ending the world and making everything as One seemed impossible to his colleagues, yet now many believed him, now that God had left. The Bum dozes off, the City of Glass appearing to him again. As he tries to step towards it, he is pushed back…

Chapter 5: Will I Arrive

[intro] The door to the Bum’s house is suddenly blasted apart as three Ghosts blaze into the room, the Bum has little chance to waken and scream before he is held and pummeled by the Ghosts. Each Angel’s expression is that of grim satisfaction. [Bypassed the day…] The bum raises his head, as his thoughts drift immediately to his past, as he spoke with his first Angel, how God left, and how the Ghosts have been out for his blood, with only the Sleepers halting their progress. The Bum stares straight at the head Angel, with an expressionless face. [how soon you have come] “how soon you have come” are his only words. [and I think about] with that, the Ghosts throw him forcefully outside, as he flies across the street and into the wall of the house adjacent to his. The angels are on him in a flash, binding him and beating him again and again. [Defy only] He is then lifted up and borne into the sky towards the Heavens – the Ghost’s fortress in the sky. The Bum looks down at the ever shrinking city… [who brought me here] They reach the fortress in an alarming rate. The entrance is dotted with shelters, strangely dark in the sunlight. Ghosts walk about, performing maintenance or other tasks. [And I think about] The Ghosts haul him off again, flying him to the center of the fortress and to the Capitol building. The Bum’s thoughts are those of the City of Glass once more… [Look at me now…] The Bum is stripped of his clothes and is given a simple tunic. His hair has been shorn off, a figure of disgrace. He is winded after the Ghosts give him another ass kicking and blacks out, knowing it is hopeless for him now…..

Chapter 6: Burn the Rememberance

The Sleepers call a Council of War, knowing time is short and the Ghosts are bound to cause Apocalyptic destruction soon… The Forsaken Girl is present and is taken into the care of a team of Sleepers. Above, the Ghosts prepare for War as well, organizing strike teams and amassing an army of countless soldiers. The Bum can only watch as the first ranks dive from the fortress, earthbound for destruction….

Chapter 7: Wealth

The two sides fly towards one another, and in a brilliant sonic wave of fire and energy, a massive shockwave engulfs the earth: The final battle has begun. Humans dot the street, watching the brutal slaughter of their beloved Sleepers. [We Die We All] A second wave of Ghosts engulf the earth with energy blasts and fire, killing anything in sight. [cool night][the scene is slowed down and sped up during the fast parts] Teams of Ghosts come down for hand to hand combat, laughing cruelly at their merciless slaughter. A team of Sleepers hides the Forsaken Girl in a decimated building before joining the battle….[we die, we all][lips..] The slaughter continues… [piercing guitar wail] a woman screams in agony as a glittering blade pierces right through her as humans are slaughtered by the millions. The screams echo in the bum’s cell, he holds his head, trying to exit the horrible sounds from his mind… As quickly as they attacked, the slaughter ceases with a final energy blast, that decimates and obliterates all.

Chapter 8: One Year From Now

In the wreckage of the earth, there is but one survivor: The Forsaken Girl. Orphaned by the Ghosts, and with a bucket as her only possession. Her body now dirtied by the very rubble that kept her hidden from the Apocalyptic assault. All Sleepers knowing that she could change the entire world if she stayed alive gave their lives for her. [Opening music] After an hour of pushing, the giant slab blocking the entrance to her matrix is pushed aside. The little girl wanders out into the destroyed city, knowing that every city in the world has met the same fate. She carries the bucket along, silently absorbing her surroundings. She then digs every now and then, looking for any scrap of what was alive. She silently fills her bucket with the remains of Sleepers that took their lives for her as she walks down a forlorn road. [telephone voice: Everything I have…] A sudden flash of fire startles her not ten feet from her. A Ghost of the Sun stands sneering at the child, who takes a few steps back… with nowhere to run and nowhere to hide, she can only watch in horror as the Ghost rushes towards her, a glittering blade in his hand. [third telephone voice: Everything I have..] The girl’s bucket falls to the ground and is splattered with crimson blood, the Ghost stares at the body and slashes it brutally again and again, although he knows she has been killed. [One from now…] The Ghost in nowhere in sight as dust slowly covers the empty shell of what would have been Mankind’s Savior….

Chapter 9: Walking By A Wire

The cell Door is opened as the Bum is hurled up against the wall and pummeled into consciousness. His thoughts can only drift again to his past, and how his fate led him to this. [standing by a building] He has slipped past Vatican security into it’s library, trying to find the missing link to his ambitions of harnessing God… He finds the scriptures he has searched his entire life for and runs out. Incantations fuel his selfish desires of uniting himself with God, chanting them aloud as he runs. Bullets from the Vatican guards whizzz by him as he returns to his hiding place… [I’ve walked behind the sun]his incantations work as he stares into the eyes of God … In the Bum’s foolishness, he tries to harness his Creator, in which God abandons Mankind…. He has done the impossible, and stripped the Angels of Immortality.

Chapter 10: Complicity

The Bum is now truly a Bum. After word got out that God had left, he had gone into hiding, and in lieu of his past endeavor, now tried to coax God back. Hacking into various databases and raiding different archives prove worthless, Realization of his cursed position dawns upon him, as he realizes one cannot control God. His entire soul has been destroyed. He was now a man with no fate but eternal misery. The only person to see God and survive, yet doomed to never rest….

Chapter 11:
In his final endeavor in his meddlings with God, he tries to end the world on his own. Taking the final blood descendant of Jesus Christ as a blood sacrifice, he slowly poisons the man. He repeatedly braces for the end, but the man dies and nothing happens. The blood is no longer Holy as the bum finally collapses in defeat. God has truly left. [I am the evidence] The bum snaps back into reality. The Ghosts have chained him and lead him none too gently down a hallway, his trial finally coming. His final test, finally here. He enters the courtroom, a small arena surrounded by the Council of Seraphim. The trial is over in a blur, and as he is led out to his fate, he lapses once more…

Chapter 12: Omerta

The Bum orders another drink at the bar that he sits at. A man walks in to the bar and sits beside him. They immediately know whom the other is. The Bum and his brother then talk about his family, how they have thought he was dead for so long after he left. The bum then feels tears running down into his hands as he remembers how happy he was back then, yet he refuses to go back, he knows he cannot. He gives his regards to his brother, and then walks out the bar into the Emptiness…..

Epilogue: Inside the City of Glass

The Mysterious Bum stands facing the City of Glass once more. The agonizing pain that he had felt inflicted upon him was no more. He cautiously takes a step forward, and with nothing holding him back, he chances two more steps. He gazes up towards the brilliant City and for the first time in a long time, a trace of a smile plays his lips. He locks his sight on the shimmering metropolis of souls and leaves the ground, he closes his eyes as his face reflects that of serene peace, calm and as he nears his final destination, all material objects are replaced. He enters the city, and suddenly….

All Is One…

The Mysterious Bum. His deeds have been forgotten in time, as his grave is now eroded and forgotten as well. We know not who buried his body, but we do know his tale, which shall live on throughout the ages as legend.

So…. What do you guys think???

Did I do good? Or is this a shit thread?

You have a lot of time on your hands. . .Decent story though. I think it will satisfy everyones hunger if Katatonia just goes on and does a concept album. Instead of making concepts out of them. Nice story though. See-ya.

I think there should be a part in the movie for a nameless guy who throws all his Katatonia LPs and cds at the ghosts of the sun.....and that the guy with the most LPs and CDs kind of saves the world because of his HUGE collection.

ya, you'd bury them all with all that shit you have :tickled:

Then there's the Alternate ending where Lord Blakkheim comes with his guitar and hands out everyone's ass on a platter with ALL the trimmings.

And then Katatonia tours America.

and then, theres the alternate alternate ending where the Ghosts all go through anger management, they befriend the humans and they both create and build a new world together.

Then Lord Blakkheim destroys everything with his wikked axe and hands everyone their asses.

God, this is gonna be a great movie
