Y'see, I posted about KATATONIA, not anyone here. I didnt get personal with anyone here, and yet so many people take what i say personally. This says more about them than me.
and for the record, it aint just me who thinks the nu- album is a bit nu-metal. Jonas even mentioned it himself in an interview, how people keep saying it about the new album...notice that they didnt before?

How can he hear nu-metal in the new release? How can you NOT? Either your love for the band has you hearing it through love speakers (yes, as opposed to seeing through love goggles ) or you hear it and simply don't want to admit Katatonia went that route. Perhaps you just don't want to admit you like the nu-metal sound so you just persist that it is not?
Frankly I'm only a fan of Katatonia from Sound of Decay on back. But when I decided to check out Viva Crappiness I was simply astonished at what I'd heard.

Really? Then it looks like nu-metal is actually an excellent genre. I'll go out and give Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park another listen, because if they're the same calibur as Viva Emptiness, nu-metal is fucking great. And the bands playing it are very skilled too. Cool! Pah, I spit in the face of you. Nu-metal must own most crappy 'proper' metal!

Categorisation sucks. The only reason i use it is to give people a general view of the music i listen too. People begin to say 'oh no this music has a bit of nu-metal in this' or 'dear me this sounds like [whatever]', it becomes ridiculous. Music is music, like it or not, bands can do what they want.

It's a pretty easy cop-out to say that you don't like Viva Emptiness because it sounds nu-metal. It's worth understanding what the stigma of nu-metal means. Obviously, there's the whole rap-core element that is a bit hard for some to digest (I personally don't care for it), but that doesn't apply here because Katatonia don't do any of that. And hey, a lot of nu-metal songs are quite catchy. I mean, they're supposed to be, that's why they run up the charts and earn record companies millions, but being catchy has never been a bad thing. I think that what chaps my ass the most about "nu-metal" is the sheer contrivance of it all. There's so much prefabricated sorrow and prefabricated angst. My ears know what they're being fed and I don't like being fed a lie. That said, I love Viva Emptiness, regardless of what genre(s) the music resembles. It's fairly apparent that Katatonia play music because they have to, it's what their lives demand of them. And they sound completely sincere in every action. I think that Jonas sings from personal feelings and circumstances, not just putting on a show to meet the emotional criteria of a Katatonia disc. If someone wants to dismiss this band because they can build a mental bridge from Katatonia's higher ground to the lower wastes of nu-metal, so be it, but it's their loss.

Getting pretty sick of these nu-metal discussions! So what is nu-metal besides Linkin Park and Slimp Bizkit to you guys? Evanescene, Kid Rock, P.O.D, KoRn and all those other sell-outs? Deftones? I hope not. To me "nu-metal" is a term of abuse.
But I guess wheter you think VE is nu-metal or not, depends on your view of what the genre really is and which bands fall under that category. Personally i think VE is awesome AND anything but nu-metal. Comparing them with ridiculous bands such as Linkin Park is a fucking insult to the band.

oh yeah, i forgot to add that the reason i am on this board is because i'm a fan of the band. There are people on here that like less of Katatonias stuff than i do.
Either way, I still have the right to express my opinion, whether you like it or not. I dont remember criticising you in any way, shape or form.

Well I am glad that you find it funny because it was an exaggeration of the way all of us feel about that comment. No one (I hope) wants to kill you over what you said but it is an opinion best left for another message board! Try to talk only about the positive things as we are here to support the band and talk shit about music, have laughs, and sometimes "heated" debates. Me and you, there are no problems between us, and I am sure that I speak for everyone else here. Just try not to trash the band on their own site. Thank you!
I have actually already done this, i 'm happy to post about what i like about the band. I dont see why this shouldnt be the place to discuss what i dont like about the band. I love all the stuff from the previous albums, and the new album isnt so bad, but i do think some of the lyrics are a bit wank and their delivery just doesnt make them sound as desolate and awesome as the previous albums. his singing has improved by miles though.
