Favourite Top 10 albums of 2009

What are your favourite Top 10 albums of 2009? Mine in no particular order of preference are as follows:

• Karma - WINGER
• Homeland - RED CIRCUIT
• Outloud - OUTLOUD
• The Works - CHITRAL "CHITY" SOMAPALA
• My Private Hell - STEEVI JAIMZ
• Paradox - THRESHOLD
• Monster Philosophy - D.A.D.
• Black Clouds and Silver Linings - DREAM THEATER
• Black Gives Way To Blue - ALICE IN CHAINS
• The Whirlwind - TRANSATLANTIC

i can usually do yearly polls after a couple of years: i don't think i even heard 10 albums released in 2009, and i can't think of any being worth a top 10!

of course, Paradox is not s proper album so it doesn't count to me

I would agree about being a bit behind in purchasing, and am equally oblivious to what actually came out in 2009 - I think the only music I have bought that is from 2009 is

Paradox

Cautionary Tales by Shadowland

Both are excellent so I guess are my top two!!! (I also got the latter for a criminally low price as the Amazon seller had made a serious (now rectified) mistake)

This year I have bought and enjoyed "The Incident" by Porcupine Tree, "Frequency" by IQ, and "Blood" by OSI

As for being oblivious... I'm not sure I can even name anything else that came out this year. I don't recognise anything on Radio 1, don't know any of the bands on "Later..." and am therefore now officially an old fart. Ha!

I could write my top ten albums I've bought this year which are more than 20 years old instead...

D'oh! I forgot Shadow Gallery! What an amazing comeback! Brian Ashland is a worthy successor for Mike Baker. When I first heard Brian sing I didn't notice that Mike wasn't there anymore!

Aye, he's amazing! My personal favourite on that album is Venom though, with vocals (mostly?) by Suspyre's Clay Barton.

Ashland has a great voice, although he sometimes does sound a lot like Geoff Tate. BTW, SG are going to play their first ever gig next spring!

A lot of people have compared Brian to Geoff which is cool but he is not a clone. I think that SG have made a smooth transition in the troubled waters of finding replacement lead singers. Brian does remind me a lot of Mike in many respects.

Yes, they are. Even though it took Silent Memorial two years to get a label after they recorded the album, it was worth the wait.

this is one of the few 2009 records I heard and was a terrible letdown.
