All Final Fantasy games have their strengths and weaknesses. I think X is a "good" game, but in the overall flow of Final Fantasy falls a bit flat. IX has some very fine music, and IV is still unrivaled for midi scores.

IX was easily better than X, and probably VIII, though I admittedly have a nostalgic penchant for VIII. Some of the pre-VII ones are worthy too, of course.
