Finally figured out how to make drum kits for Kontakt! (using own samples)

Hey guys! Made a kontakt drum kit using some own samples from a session from last year, and then i used superior for cymbals+room. Tell me what you think!

Here's a quick mix i did with it. Poor guitar playing and pitch-shifted guitar for bass, but you get the picture!

The kit is a Pork Pie custom kit, toms have Remo coated heads and are mic'd with 57's, e602 on the kick, and the snare is a Chad Smith Signature also mic'd with a 57. The mics went into a mid-grade Mackie Onyx preamp built around the beginning of this century, going through ADAT into an RME Hammerfall. Would have sampled his Zildjan A-customs aswell, but i only had a pair of AKG C1000's at the time.

Here's the kit!

Would anyone be interested in this?

**UPDATE**

Here are all the files for the shells, .nki for seperate drums, ready-routed .nkm for multi, .gogs for replacing live drums and of course the .wavs.

Let me know what you think about the overall layout. If the samples were top-notch (i know these aren't), would you pay for a download link to a zip like this? Cause i'm thinking of creating larger libraries with full cymbal sets (A-customs, HHX etc) and shells (Tama Rockstar, Mapex Orion, Pearl Masters, Porkpie Custom) with individual bleed and stuff for full control. It would be cheap as hell, cheaper than i.e. superior drummer or slate, and it could really help people who want productions that sound good but stand out from the normal Sturgis or Bulb mix rip-off cult. I'm not going to market these much, so it would be like a little secret weapon for the people hanging around here. But I need to know if people want this before i go and drop $$$$ on studio rentals, drum heads etc.

These samples are sick! Would be fun to blend them with some Slates or S2.0's. I'd be definitely interested in them!

cool as fuck that you know how to make Kontakt instruments..but, could you also tell us HOW to make them? Kit sounds pretty ok, but the snare sounds too "beefy" and the kick has alot of subs/low mids going on. never the less, good job man! keep em coming

The Kontakt manual has a lot of important info on how to create round-robin/multi-sampled instruments. There are also a couple good tutorials available on the internet.

alright, seems like enough people are interested now! :) i'm going to post these shells as a zip file, with all the individual drums (kick, snare, racktom, floortom) as .nki's (was going with .kt3 at first but changed my mind) and the sound folders with the .wav-files that go along with them. they load up into the full version of kontakt 5 (should also work in 4). then you could perhaps save the multi to recall the entire set later. i'll also include .gog-files for every individual drum. this sound good? would you like it in any other format? and can anyone recommend a good mirror? becuase the filesize will probably wreck my dropbox.

**IF YOU WANT MORE**
i'm also planning on doing this in a larger scale with cymbals in a major studio (studio abyss, run by peter tägtgren (of pain, hypocrisy) and jonas kjellgren (of scar symmetry, carnal forge) where bands like dimmu borgir and amon amarth make their records) with several drum kits and cymbal sets. a friend of mine got a really nice and rare mapex orion with a black panther snare, full sabian HHX cymbal set. got a tama rockstar, the pork pie custom set with full ziljdan A-custom set, plus some different snares. also know a guy with a brand new pearl masters set and tons of effect cymbals (splashes, zil-bells, you name it). i'd then market this as Nailvillage Drums (nailvillage audio being the name of my future studio) and charge a small amount, i'm not looking to make that much money since the main reason for these samples is to be used within my own productions, just wanna cover the production costs as much as possible. i'd sell shells with seperate room and oh bleed, and cymbals with separate room for you all to mix and match. and also full kits as ready routed multis. i'd make tutorials on how to set them up and differnt ways to use them in production, and there will be tons of freebies, like snares etc. would anyone be interested in THIS? "nailvillage drums - put the 'scandinavian' in your recordings!", sounds pretty good, right? let's get past this genre-haunting phenomenon that is superior drummer!

Battery files will work with kontakt? If so, that should be fine for me. If not, .NKI files would be hugely appreciated as I only use kontakt. I'm eager to listen to these and start using them in mixes!

got ya! found out how to turn the .kt3's into .nki's easy. just re-save and uncheck "absolute file path". also added a nice instrument wallpaper and made a working ready-routed multi! and the file size compressed is just 25 mbs! i'm uploading it to dropbox as we speak, hope this works :)

What kind of reverb on the snare? The reverb sounds epic!

i just used Roomworks SE as a send which went on the snare, toms and the lead guitar, it's stock with cubase, and then added some slate room (Snare 10 z4 in drumagog, mixed in at about 8-10%).
