Finally The Black Stymphalian EP is ready for release! *Free download*

Thanks Rus! Im really pleased this is getting an even better responce than I expected! It was a pretty sweet blend, the 6505 with more of the note definition and the tightness and the recto with the crunch and the overall "filly in the gaps" type of sound! There will be more to come!

Yo James, would be interested in doing some kind of feature/interview type thing for a web project Im doing?

Hey Rich,

Yeah for sure, sounds interesting! :)

Pretty cool dude.

01 Deadlock (The Fall of Angels)- gave me a real Testament vibe which I enjoyed.
02 Falling Into Darkness- sounded like it was going end about 5 times and still kept going.
03 Embrace The Decay - Fucking sic! Love it!

Gotta listen to the rest . . . Sure I'll dig it. :headbang:

oh and a big THANK YOU for sharing. :kickass:

No worries dude, the pleasure is all mine. It would be a kick in the face to the forum not to share this EP with you guys since I learnt pretty much everything production wise on here IMO!

Watch out for The Watcher! It may take a few listens but you WILL be humming the vocal melodies when you least expect it ;)

But man, you put so much work in there. The most people here I guess, would have bought your EP gladly. In view of the fact that you did not sell it, let me say this is highly appreciated! :kickass:

I will be selling it very soon, the full 320kb mp3's and the physical CD's. But I didn't want to pass out the myspace link and then ask people to buy it from that.

Its more like a thankyou to the forum and if any members really like the stuff and want the EP in HQ its more like a donation as they could just be satisfied with the mp3's ive posted here for free :) Thats how I see it at least! :)

I will take the link off eventually so get it while its hot people! ;)

Wow, ace material, James!

The stuff works surprisingly well with singers who are so different stylistically! Fantastic production, too. Sounds clear and modern but not overly artificial, even the programmed drums.

Oh and btw, there's a little spelling error in the Myspace link in the OP. There's an 'a' missing there somewhere. ;)

I am not the biggest fan of trash metal but this is really good dude. Love the strings/choirs in some sections, bring some new level of evilness!lol I also love the melancholy in the first part of the watcher and the singer is awesome in that track.

Btw, how many time did you spend composing this? Certainly a lot of months.
Congrats for the hard work.:headbang:

Thanks! Yeah I try to mix it up abit, with what id like to hear rather than what I guess other people want to hear *metullz metullz metullzzz*

I was pretty laggy on this for sure, a bit part of the problem was finding the singers and even when I did find singers that were up for it I needed to find a singer that fit the track. That was a pain, but im glad I found the people that I did as they all did a kickass job! I also had quite a lot of close family problems throughout and I did get the wind knocked of me for quite a while in that respect.....so this is a big relief that its finally done and people are enjoying it! :headbang::lol:

The actual writing of the songs was over a long period of time, I wrote Falling Into Darkness and Where The Strong Become Weak like 3 years ago, but then I joined a local thrash band and left after about a year, then came back to this and wrote the rest of the EP during mid 09.

Holy crap, Shred!

That is some seriously awesome stuff, I'm going to be listening to this a lot! Great job! Sounds way better than most of the stuff coming out of big names with big budgets.

Someday I hope to be able to get close to this level. Thanks for sharing with us!

Damn, that sounds great!
Awesome job, man, great songs, great production, great mix! Keep it coming! :kickass:

Yo dude, as I listen more, I wanted to ask - how do you approach tracking/panning the repeating lead-type licks in choruses? (e.g. chorus of "Falling into Darkness") Also, how do you have the verb and/or delay for them panned? Sounds great :kickass:

In fact, what the hell all is going on guitar-wise during that chorus anyway? I really dig how it all comes together, I just can't quite pick out how many different parts are playing simultaneously, and how they're panned

This music rules in every single way, playing, writting production. Admit it "the shred" you are really andy sneap posting under a different name!

There's only 2 guitar parts on the chorus's to FID, one of them sounds close to the main vocal melody, thats the main section which is played with chords, on its own it sounds fairly dissonant but it works with everything together. Then theres a lead style guitar on top playing that kinda skipping melody over the top. Theres also a string section playing exactly the same melody as the lead line, just to fill it out and give a bit more "width" with the different sounds.

The chord part is quad tracked as is the rest of the main rhythms and the lead melody part is double tracked, not 100% on the panning but it will be between 100/80% either side. The verbs and delays are just set center pan, the delay will probs be like 1/4 on one side and 1/4D on the other. I changed them up on every song so im not sure which is which but I like the dotted note on the opposite side for alot of the stuff.

Every lead melody line on this EP is double tracked actually!

Hahaha I wish!!! He has more face fur than me....and a better chair for starters!

For the main solos I might have doubled a line here and there but thats all single, its just the "melody" style ones, or the phasey shit you hear on sections of FID and ETD that I double then pan out abit.

As I say I have tracking videos for most of this so if I can get the size down I can post a clip of the main crux of that chorus, as I recorded it.
