Hey guys. I really need to find a good vocalist to share with my voice teacher. Do you guys have any suggestions? I was thinking Declan Galbraith. I found his music video on youtube, and he has a really phenomenal voice. You should check him out if you're into singers.

good voice if you like slightly nasal pop. Thin, though...that'll change when he grows up.
What sort of music do you want to sing? Because if you want to sing this sort of stuff...wrong place.

Sing like this

*in before someone says Mikael Akerfeldt*

That said. I love his voice, and the Katatonia guy. And Steve Wilson.

Arcturus's singer is probably my all time favorite. His voice almost brings me to tears, he's so good. In fact, he's probably the one person who I can honestly admit that I'm jealous of.

Also, Sonata Arctica's singer is incredible as well. According to their website, he doesn't even have any formal vocal trainer which blows my mind.

My voice is way too deep to be able to sing like either of these guys though, but with a LOT of training, I might one day be able to sing like Christopher Lee, the white bearded guy from this Rhapsody video.

Heres a varity of styles and voices, that sing, I assume your talking about singers, most are old school, metal, commercial metal or hard rock but in those days the ability of the vocalist made or broke bands, these guys MADE IT ! I cant speak much for the newer vocalists
Geoff Tate - Queensryche 84 - 90 the ultimate voice during these years
Russell Allen - Symphony X, raw, gritty but can clean right up too, hes still on his game
David Coverdale
Sammy Hagar
Steven Tyler
Mikael Akerfeldt - I'll second that
Michael Metijevic - Steelheart if your into impossible highs with intense passion
Zach Stevens - Savatage
Rob Halford - Judas Priest
Ronnie James Dio
James Dewar - early Robin Trower years, thick, fat bluesy, great tone

edit : I forgot Roy Khan - Kamelot in my opinion the best voice in power metal today, he has dynamics similar to Tate

I have no comment on that DLR soundclip

Heres Queensryche/Geoff Tate in '87 its a MTV kind of vid not "live"

The name Bruce Dickinson hasn't come up yet, which is sort of disturbing...he's an amazing vocalist. Ronnie James Dio is also excellent.

BlackMetalWhiteGuy posted that Rhapsody video. Their vocalist, Fabio Leone, is fantastic. Pick up Symphony of Enchanted Lands and Triumph or Agony (excellent albums, too). Most of their stuff has an even more triumphant symphonic feel. Very epic.

Check out Avantasia - The Metal Opera Pt 1. A ton of different vocalists sing on this. Tobias Sammet of Edguy does the writing and sings for the main character. He's an excellent vocalist. However, there are plenty of other extremely talented vocalists on there, including Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen of Helloween

EDIT: Also, I totally have to third Mikael Akerfeldt, and second Russel Allen

Now your on a whole nother planet when you talk about the infamous Opera Tenors. I like the tenors and my ears shreak at the sound of the Sopranos. To me ultimatly the voice should be used like a fine tuned instrument, with great dynamics and expression, the Opera Tenors are the ultimate.

BUT... I proudly say - Metal has had some DAMN awsome voices over the years, many mentioned in this thread and many yet to be mentioned. :headbang:

I love Sopranos too.... not the TV drama...of course

Hmm, thanks for all the help, you guys. Well, what do you think of female singers? I found this really cool artist named Rose Rossi. I mean she's definitely not metal, but she has this really cool Fiona Apple/old Gwen Stefani vibe. I think it's really cool.
