finding a good vocalist

Oh yes, I know. I only meant it's not quite opera. :)
I was under the impression that she was trained as an opera singer.

Here are some other female vocalists that I like:

Floor Jansen - After Forever (Netherlands)
My personal favorite, and I hear she was only 18 when this was recorded

Liv Kristine - Leaves' Eyes (Germany)

¿ Marika Shonberg ? - Therion (Sweden)

Dawn Desireé - Rain Fell Within (Virginia, USA)

Quinn Weng - Seraphim (Taiwan)

She does have classical training, but her solo works that I have heard are not in the style of traditional opera....

P.S. Marika is really great, though having heard Liv's voice live, I must say it's very processed. :)

Okay, what I heard was that she had classical training, which I must have interpretted as opera. Honestly, I don't know very much about singing, so I guess my ear isn't trained well enough to distinguish between her style and real opera :(

Marika's voice is extremely impressive though and I've never heard any other singer in any other band with that kind of power. Floor is still my favorite though, mostly because of the timbre of her voice.

Oh, here's another good one though.

The name Bruce Dickinson hasn't come up yet, which is sort of disturbing...he's an amazing vocalist. Ronnie James Dio is also excellent.

I can't believe noone's mentioned Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian!

The choir is all Hansi. He sings each part and then layers it.

Check out Russell Allen of Symphony X. His clear singing in the title track of The Odyssey is fucking amazing.

No it doesn't. Not as shitty as in other songs. But seriously, there are a lot of vocalists who are better than him. And I mean A LOT.

So fuck me.

There are way more vocalists who are worse. Which, when you look at it, puts him as one of the best singers in metal. Especially in popular metal.

Yeah, I'd say that Halford is better. King Diamond too. But he's way better than say, Hetfield, Mustaine, Tom Araya, etc...

Halford has better range, but I think Bruce has better control somewhat. Both fantastic singers. Dio is also great.

Funny, Bruce is completely shitty imo. He has an annoying voice. Hetfield has a great voice, he can do harsh and clean vocals very well.

Hahah! Anyone can use language as vague as yours to explain why they like or dislike a singer. Personally, I find that Hetfield has a boring, predictable voice, low range of notes, and an annoying, overdone rasp (as far as "harsh" vocals go).

Which in your language translates to, "He sounds like shit imho."

My favorite vocalist, Jason Mendonca, in one of his best vocal songs as far as versatility goes:

Another good song:

Or if you're more into Power/NWOBHM/Heavy there's always Massacration:

Edit: Kjell Andersson from Altered Aeon also comes to mind.
