finding metal music

I really have trouble finding new metal and hardcore bands online. How can I find more? Help me out metal heads!!!!

Find the myspaces of the bands you already enjoy, and investigate some of the other bands that they're friends with. This is a great way to find similar bands, I've found.

Actually myspace is a great way to look for bands. What I usually do is type in the genre(s) of kind of music you want to find (or country if you want to as well) followed by "site:myspace.com"

For example, I might type in "gothic black metal band site:myspace.com" or without the word "band" and then search through the results till you find something interesting, it works for me.

Last.fm is decent but you get a lot of general/vague comparisons, particularly with popular bands.

There's a recommendation section on here. Ask for new bands there and we will gladly give you absurdly long lists with a bit of condescension thrown in.

yep, that's my combo (excluding the UM recs forum)

type in a band I like on lastfm
click its 'similar artists' page
take any name I don't already know, punch that into MA, and look for any further description, rating, or reviews. and go from there.
