Fireface 800 on laptop with firewire 400 to 1394

Maybe was a bit unclear aswell...

I normally in holland, work with a fireface 800, with a 800 to 400 fireware cable into a 1364 firewire pci card into my normal desktop.

For the recordings here in isreal the band bought me a laptop.
Yet the laptop only has usb, and the 1394 firewire input (this kinda: http://rocky.digikey.com/weblib/Assmann/Web Photos/AK 1394-184.jpg the smaller one)
I now attempted to hook up my fireface by a firewire 400 to 1394 adapter, but it wont recognize it yet, as will it recognize any device.

What can be the problem?
Drivers for the 1394 port?
Hope its clear now :) Thanks a bunch for taking the time and the swift reaction!

Greet, JB.

When I record with my laptop I use the same cable, with a FF400 though...

But it should work with a FF800!

The bus power option don't work, I'm shure you've tried with power supply anyways.

Maybe the chipset from the onboard FW port sucks? I've searched for an TI FW Laptop and have no issues...

Hmm, dunno COULD be... as many other things..
On my main machine I use an VIA one and that thing runs flawlessly.

But if nothing works at your laptops FW port you could maybe take a look at your bios.

That Ricoh chipset is a piece of shit and is likely to never work. Couldn't get my buddies Profire working on his Sony laptop using the same chipset either.

One thing that you COULD try that MIGHT work is to rollback the driver for the 1394 controller to the "Legacy" driver. Just open device manager, right click the 1394 controller, hit Update Driver, then "Browse", then "Choose from List" and try every single driver that shows up, you might get lucky.
