First day of drumsound, opinions?

Leagues ahead of something I got given recently and asked 'is this useable?'.

Sounds pretty good to me man. Sounds like there's some odd ring or room resonance on the snare hits though. But I suppose those things just go hand in hand with recording drums.

Decent sound man. Sounds like you guys know how to tune a kit, so all should be fine. Is it just me or does it sound like theres some swishing on the crash hits, i wouldnt call it phasing, but i wouldn't rule it out either. Maybee someone with more trained ears can clarify that?

it sounds pretty good man, the toms are nice and thick, the snare is a bit thin and idk high pitched. maybe try a maple snare if possble if not try to eq in some lows. sounds good for no mixing. explain the room u recorded in, everything has a nice air to it, i like it.

Well the reason to the swishing might be that I've raised the OH's to high up towards the ceiling.
The studio we're recording in is a "two room merged into one by knocking down a wall" solution, half of it is an old file storage (dampened down insanely much, no roomsound in there) and the other half is an old shower-room with a concrete ceiling. We recorded in the showerroom this time but when lowering the OH's I will try moving the kit into the other half of the room.
Perhaps that could solve the phasing issue?

The snare is a Ludwig Black Beauty, I think it's a bit high pitched too so I'll try tuning it down just a bit. I really dig how it cuts through though.

More samples on the way as we keep experimenting, we don't start recording full on until Easter so that gives us som time to tweak the sound.

Freddy A: Do you have a drier print you can share?

It sounds good to me, but I'd like to hear the close mics and less room.

I've got the solution to the crash, I listened to it and found the swish.
The main right crash on this test has a one inch crack in it, hence the swishing sound.

Case closed ;)

It's a Black Beauty??? Considering how the toms and everything are tuned pretty damn well, the snare's tuning is really odd. Black Beauty's are my favorite snares to record, let it have some bass, some body, and it'll cut through regardless.

Well as stated above, I wouldn't have a go at calling myself a drummer even if my life depended on it (perhaps the same should go for guitarist, songwriter and producer heh).

This is as I stated in the thread a discussion about the sound, not the playing.
