When you first got the internet, which sites did you regularly read?

Way back when, I used to exclusively read Marcus Karlsson's Review Page: http://www.mds.mdh.se/~kem93mkn/reviews.htm

I don't know whether there just weren't as many metal sites around at that time, or whether my searching skills were just pathetic, but this was like the first metal page I ever stumbled across. Clearly it's a pretty amateur page, but it was thanks to him I dicovered my 3 all time favourite bands: Empyrium, Agalloch and In The Woods (he did have some Agalloch reviews, but this is an old version of his page).

Then I started checking out SSMT. That site became the only review site I regularly checked out. The forum was a pretty fun place too.

Then I discovered UM through The End Records forum, and since then it's been the only metal site I look at regularly.

Satan Stole My Teddybear
Gnosis Zine (now defunct)
LARM (best review site I've ever visited)

I found UM when it was actually just a metal zine and with no forums (or maybe I didn't find them). But my actual registration date for UM was back in the summer of 2001.

Marcus Karlsson too. I'm surprised and pleased the page is still up and hasn't changed design for, what, 8 years on? o_O

Then I started writing stuff for Nightshade Magazine (RIP), The Purgatory of Grief (RIP) and then some French sites.

The Grimoire of Exalted Deeds remains the most valuable reviews resource as far as I'm concerned

Woahh. That Markus Karlsson dude went to my school. It was also one of the first sites I checked out back in 96. Ironmaiden.com and megadeth.com were other sites I used to read.

some bands website referred to UM, i started cruising some of the forums at random and this one was pretty good (see: not crap) so I lurked around without signing up for about ayear then signed up.

I first visited

some slayer forum, that got the ball rolling
satan stole my teddy bear
markus karlesson (it's how i discovered ulver)
Larm (discovered countless bands from here)

It is, isn't it? Glad you like it.

Funny that other people used to read Marcus Karlsson.

First forum I ever registered on was the old Megadeth forum in late 1998, using the same nick (though I browsed through several newsgroups prior to that), can't recall what the first review site I ended up checking regularly for updates was.

the old roadrunner message board in like '95. my screen name was 'slayer' and i posted pretty frequently, but i don't think you even logged in back then, it was just post post post.

then some chumps came in and totally ruined it, and the next metal forum i went to was UM like 7 years later. during that lapse i actually went out and did stuff with life. :loco:

The first website i visited when i got internet access (2000) was bnrmetal. The first online community was an epic metal mailing list, then the OMEN mailing list, and the first forum was the Nevermore board in UM, in 2002.
